    Default Say "CHRISTMAS" dammit!

“But what if they’re jeeeew-iiish” says the whiner. Um. Its customary for Jews to respond to “Merry Christmas” either with “Happy Hanukkah” or “and Merry Christmas to you!”. the former extends your holiday back to the person wishing merriment on you and the latter is a simple “thank you. back attcha”.

As a Federal holiday, America celebrates Christmas no matter what (so there Barry). so “Merry Christmas” can mean:

    • ”happy celebration of the birth of Christ”
    • ”happy celebration of the philosopher Jesus whom you don’t believe was divine but recognize had a significant influence in our great country anyway”
    • ”happy month of good cheer and altruism or whatever”
    • or just “happy day we don’t have to go into work (yay) and all the banks are closed (not so yay)”

Since there is no litmus test on which of those is meant or taken as by either sayer or receiver, “Merry Christmas” is already all inclusive, making “Happy Holidays” a vile and odious insulting substitution spawned only from hate and intolerance of anything with vaguely religious roots.

Don’t let intolerant bigoted libtard jerks pressure you into not saying Christmas…...

The phrase is appropriate when said to inter-faith families and in contexts such as saying “man, the holidays really kicked my ass this year” in January (because you could mean any combonation or all of Thanksgiving, Hannukka and/or Christmas and New Years).

Next one that says "Happy Holidays" to me gets two in the chest and one in the head.

Wish people Merry Christmas. It’s a good thing.
for the love of Christ………. gawd.

I agree, very few people associate Xmas with the Xtian celebration of their deity. In just the same way that Easter was taken from the Pagans and re-invented, so Christmas is a time for peace, family, celebration and in the case of kids - wonder.

Or in the case of Ambulance workers like me, a time to work non-stop for no extra pay but double the vomit.

It is another one of those "offended by proxy" things I reckon, can't think of a single person who has ever looked taken aback by Christmassyness. It is the fluffy-lovey liberal-wiberals who imagine that someone might be offended.

I could be wrong, I am due to be wrong in 2014 so it could have come early. So if someone has actually been upset themselves by Xmas, Santa, Snow, Robins, Overly Large Socks hanging from a fireplace, Tinsel, etc. Please do let me say so.

Bang on mate, I was trying to do more than one thing at once (not including breathing as I am getting ok at that one now) and thought "funny, there are no quote codes in here; oh well carry on...".

    Rose are Reddish.
    Violets are Blueish.
    If it wasn't for Christmas.
    We'd all be Jewish.

a Christmas card received 30+ years ago from a Jewish neighbour.
who origionally came from europe before WW11.
But considered himself and his family British.
worked all his life, paid his taxes, and raised his kids as British through and through.
and practised his religion in private in his home and synagogue.
yet to me he was one of the most christian spirited men I ever knew.
he said he came to Britain in an hour of need and was eternally grateful for its generosity in welcoming and saving him.
and in return he did all he could to be British and live what he considered a British way of life.
so from me and my very British Jewish neighbour of old, Have a very Happy Christmas boys and girls.

I misread Customloads post with his list of christmas things.
    thought he said
santa, snow, robins, Overly Large JOCKS hanging from a fireplace.
on reflection, it works either way.
