For example all our handlers are ACPO accredited ie attend police dog training schools for both explo and drugs work.Dont know if all regional police dog training schools will train individuals due to security reasons however it doesnt hurt to give any of them are call. At the moment there is no such thing as a licence to work drugs or explo search dogs in the UK no matter what other people will tell you ,you can only be tested to police standards and receive a letter/course report to say as such.
Just be aware there is a lot of companys out there that will take lots of cash off you for nothing or deliver poor training and badly trained dogs lots of cowboys around.Know of talk of someone who searched various venues with a drugs dog for explosives as the "client would not have a clue anyway" was answer given.Check out canine services on our company web site ICTS UK & IRELAND.
If you want anymore info or help just ask will try to help.

Just be careful in my opinion nasdu generally seem to be a bit money orientated shame they are always quoted as being the point of reference for search dog handlers as the name implies National Assocation of Security Dog users. They have only recently issued guidlines for search dogs. IMHO there are some good companies out there but investigate any training provider as much as you can .A mate of mine was charged 14,000 to be trained by an ex police instructor in working drugs search dogs ( this included a dog ) and to be honest his knowledge wasnt up to much he has learnt a lot by doing the job himself and getting advice from some better qualified people.Just because someone is a ex police instructor does not mean he is any good , lots of the training methods used are 20 or 30 years out of date ( oops going to get some flak for that one ) If you dont belive me just ask any of them when their explo manual was written ( and this was copied from the Army manual).Hope you are lucky I was and love my job shame them damm dogs make life so hard sometimes.
