! have been told by one guy with BOSIET that he was told by one company that he STILL had to have STCW95 as that (STCW95) was what the client was asking for...when he enquired about transferable skills he was told although BOSIET is a higher level of training he couldn't get any 'credits' for the course and would have to do STCW95....BUT as with everything different companies have different rules!
BOSIET is pertinent to the offshore insudtry i.e oil and gas, and STCW95 is for maritime. The qualifications are not transferable. If you need any further guidance then please do email me.
To back up the above post. I have held a valid BOSIET for working in the O&G sector for the past 12 years since leaving the RM and have been told by various companies that in order to work in Marsec then I would also need to do the STCW-95. Also, one other point is that Offshore Medical's are not acceptable for Marsec either, even though it is far more stringent than the ENG-1 and is required every year.
Sorry for late post just back in the UK with a tan.
As stated in pervious replys, Boiset is for the Oil & Gas installs etc and therefore Stcw is required. However some Oil survey vessels require VPT members to hold "Dunker" training at least as I found out recently on a project.
Keep your Boiset quals in date and if not done so already, get your additional quals/medical for Norwegian sector as the East African seaboard is/going to be a haven for Projects and guess what, the norwegians are right there in the thick of it. So best of both worlds, installations and vessels.
For more info give me a shout.
