Default IQ Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators - CTR Services

    Share
    All,

Again, we are in a position of having to plan for and apply for another SIA licence, this time it is the Professional Investigator.

As an operational company, we also have to gain individual licenses and also a business licence when it comes into effect.

This post is to draw your attention to the IQ Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators delivered by ourselves (CTR Services).

CTR have been active in investigations since 1996 and still continue to provide investigation and surveillance services to varying clients, in addition to this we have been providing surveillance training since 2003. This allows us to understand the industry and provide training that is up to date and from experience.

The IQ Level 3 Award is currently recognised by the SIA for when licensing comes into effect and hence is a course that those practising investigations need to consider.

    What does the course involve?
The course is delivered over 5 days at our training facility in Norfolk, the course covers the SIA core competencies and much more. Throughout the course we will explore disciplines such as (but not limited to):

    - General Enquiries
    - Open Source Information
    - Process Serving
    - Statement Taking
    - Tracing
    - Surveillance Equipment
    - Surveillance Planning
    - Law and Legislation
    - Client Profiling
    - Business Start Up

Much of the course is theory based although there are areas which are practical such as surveillance planning and recce stage, statement taking and so on. As surveillance plays a part in licensing then we are also offering a 3 day bolt on for those that do not have experience in surveillance which provides a Foot/Mobile/Static/Planning overview (this should not replace formal surveillance training although we recognise that some investigators may not get involved in surveillance on a daily basis, hence this is another option to bring them up to speed as an overview).

    Assessment
Assessment for the qualification is by sitting 2 exams and a short portfolio of evidence based on planning a surveillance operation, hence this is why we cover the surveillance planning stage.

    Approved Prior Learning
There may be a case for those that have relevant experience and qualifications to skip the full course and just complete the assessment, although as a company we have set up stringent guidelines for approved learning and experience, otherwise everyone will be just sitting the exams and no one will be properly trained! Remember, courses are for learning and not just a tick in a box…

    Cost
The cost of the course is set at £595.00 plus VAT for full course, this is a cost that we have identified as fair in line with current market trends and the fact that there will be other costs such as licensing etc. We also recognise that many PI's are sole traders and so a course price of a £1000.00 or over is not ideal. There is a saying that you pay for what you get, although we can confidently say that you will appreciate the level of training and experience you will get through our course.

    Delivery
The main course is delivered from our training centre in Norfolk over 5 days, we are also looking at Woking and Birmingham to offer training. In addition to this we also deliver the course via e-learning, although you will also need to sit the 2 exams for assessment. Preference will always be given to centre based courses as this allows more interaction with the tutor and allows you to asks more questions. However. the assessment exams for the e-learning can be booked on a date of your choosing (based on availability), this means that you do not have to wait for certain exam slots to come up.

    Testimonials
We are not planning to run these courses, we HAVE been running these courses throughout 2013 with great feedback. You can find some of our testimonials below to give you a hint of our courses:

ALAN S (ex DCI) - Level 3 Professional Investigator
The Course was conducted in a professional and amiable manner which made it comfortable to learn the required legislation and procedures which was important as I had not been inside a classroom for some years.

I selected the Residential Course as I did not feel I would be disciplined enough to complete the Distant Learning Package.

The location and type of premises used was excellent and the facilities could not be faulted and there was access to all the equipment required.

Despite there being only three students on the Course I do not feel that affected the interaction between ourselves and the tutors and we were able to learn from each others experiences in our own work practices.

The Course was good value for money and was about the right length of time with plenty of time for revision.

I would recommend it to others who wish to attain the qualification.

The tutors and administration staff kept me fully informed and responded to any queries immediately and resolved any issues or concerns that I had.

A most enjoyable and rewarding experience.

    MIKE C, Level 3 Surveillance
A little unsure of sure what to expect. However I wasn’t disappointed, right from the start the staff were very friendly. The instructors were brilliant with a wealth of experience and knowledge which they were keen to pass on to us. The course its self was presented extremely well.

All modules were explained clearly and precisely making everyone feel at home and providing a relaxed learning environment. The class room work was intuitive, the practical side, fantastic with lots to learn and more so to enjoy.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and came away very happy.

I would most definitely recommend this course to anyone wishing to start up in the surveillance community.

Those that book on the course, will also have access to an online course/information which can used as a revision tool, either by going back through the lessons or downloading attached fact sheets.

Unless a person has a background in investigations, then the full course will have to be taken. A fast track option is offered which allows an experienced PI to only sit the assessments, although CTR policy for this fast track is as follows:

    - Current level 3 qualification in place and/or higher education qualification
    - Current member of a professional investigator body i.e. ABI, WAPI, IPI etc.
    - At least 5 years recognised experience working as an investigator
    - 2 professional references required
    - Pass CTR knowledge exam (based on the assessment criteria for APL)

We need to be quite stringent on this otherwise every person looking for a PI licence will be requesting to do the fast track option and this will allow those without experience to slip through the net. It is the responsibility of the training provider to ensure that anyone requesting fast track are in fact properly qualified, have experience and are deemed suitable in line with APL and background. This unfortunately will ultimately be a small percentage of people.

An Ex DCI took your course? I do not believe you...a CID course is 3 months at basic level. What befit would a non approved 5 day course be to 'Alan'??
Perhaps the time to run these courses are when SIA and government agree on what is required.
A five day course is a joke, ripping people off.
And yes, I am an ex police officer, qualified to senior detective, qualified to teach and assess.

    Wow,

    Calm down sir!

Without releasing personal details on here, an ex DCI did sit the 5 day course and he had his own reasons for doing so. He must have thought that gaining a commercial view of investigative practices may benefit him outside of that which he undertook in the police. In addition to this the time spent outside of the police was quite substantial.

Your comment is like me saying I do not believe you were in the police Mr Steve Thrift.

Thanks for your valuable input though.

I suppose the difference betwen us is that I can prove my background as a detective and have no problem doing so. I will be running PI courses WHEN the criteria is established for licensing, not ripping people off with worthless 'qualifications'. You should be bloody ashamed of yourself.

    Steve,

I will not be getting into a pointless argument with a person that obviously has a personal issue with the level of current PI training due to competitive reasons, if you want to start training then go for it but do not slam other TP's courses when you have zero understanding of their course.

Why do you not let everyone know what name you will delivering your PI course under, what is your company name? You are a disgrace to the police force to be honest as you come on here jumping in with both feet without anything to back up your claims. Also, how long will your course be as it certainly cannot be 5 days as this is ridiculous!

How long have you been training for? What standards/accreditations do you have? How long have you been trading? These are the relevant background points that matter, not the fact that you are an ex copper and believe you can train.

For your information, the course/qualification we deliver is currently recognised and if any changes are made (which is doubtful) then past students will be provided with additional training.

Take care my friend and good luck with your training venture, just remember that your delivery should be based on fact and not slandering other TP's.

All the best Mr Steve Thrift...

I have no wish to correspond further with you further after this, bu disgrace to the Police Force? Idiot. How is pointing out a rip off course a disgrace to anything?
You are teaching investigation, and you state that I am slandering you....
well Sherlock, slander is making a false SPOKEN statement, not in writing. That is libel.
    Well done and goodbye.

Please explain why it is a rip off course? You have yet to explain this or quantify your statement?

Please explain why IQ have communicated this course as currently approved by the SIA?

Please explain why other reputable providers are delivering the exact same qualification?

Please let us know what qualification you will be delivering?

I doubt you were even in the police force as you behave like you have just left school, let alone the police.

You are more than welcome to visit our offices to discuss this in person, I will personally meet you there.

    Classic,

You have just set up a private company (2013) and will be delivering training soon? No list of current accreditations/quality standards on your website, if you have any?

You have a long way to go before you get to the level that we have attained, and your childish personal rant is witness to this. When you have traded more than a year then please come back to us with something intelligible to bring to the table.

You must be so proud of what you have achieved in 8 months with Endeavour.
