Good morning. Merry Christmas. Welcome to the forum.
Whilst there is a very VERY strong element of truth in what your friend says, there are ways to get in to things.... Making sure that you have the best of training from the best of providers, making sure that you do more than any of your peers to promote your own development, and to make sure that above all else your attitude is exemplary. This is shown through every interaction... Right down to simple things like spelling grammar and respect. (I know my grammar is awful on this post but am on my phone!)
Remember that those who have been in police or services will already have accrued THOUSANDS of hours post-training. YOU need something .... An angle.... That sets you apart from the rest of the herd... And when the rest of the herd is already a few thousand hours ahead of you... You need to work HARD :-)
AND CONTACTS CONTACTS CONTACTS..... This forum.is a great start with people from all over the world and real genuine experts in their chosen field, as well as the decision makers and training providers of choice. There will also be others who bring nothing to your future career or life. You now need to discover who is who, and learn from those who will serve you best...and REMEMBER that they have served you well. Reciprocity is king in the security world.
All the best.
