    Default HEM course or MIRA???

    Hi guys.

So far I am trained: First aid at work (to get my SIA licence). I am ex military and in the past did do team medic courses etc.

I am now wanting to advance my medic skills for me and to help with job prospects as I am looking to get back out to the middle east.

Can anyone advise on what would be best to?

HEM (Hostile environment medic course/FPOS) or MIRA 1 course?

Also is it actually possible for me to just go and do either one of these courses or would I have had to had better previous medical quals?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

    Cheers.

Steve1114, my hat off to you for the effort. In reality though you really don't have a lot going for you with those skills. Yes you need some courses, but don't look for the quick fix course, it ain't going to happen. No employer worth it's weight will look at you without some serious medic quals/skills behind you, especially back in the dust bowls. If your serious about this sh*t, get real get enrolled on some IHCD recognised course, uni or college, check out NHS careers, places like that, they have all the gumpf on it. Best of luck anyhow.

    Steve1114.

I'm assuming that you don't want to be a fully qualified medic, but enhance your job prospects by gaining qualifications that may lead to your employment as a team medic (two totally different jobs).

I believe that different companies recommend different courses for their team medics. I understand for example (and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) that Control Risks insist on the MIRA course, Olive Group use the VIPER course and Aegis run their own in-house course.

My (humble) advice is see what company you would like to deploy with, then see which training provider they tend to favour.

If you do intend to become a fully qualified medic, then there is plenty of advice to take in the forums.

I hope this is of some use and good luck.

    Kelv.
