Hello guys (and girls of course)
need a quick heads up here if anyone can help me out. Been working abroad last 12 months but due back in the UK beginning of May. CP license expired 12th January and CCTV expired 12th March, want to renew them both when back in blighty. Says on the website that there is no period of grace between licenses, but does that mean I will have to re-qualify accredited training wise, or is it in relation to the issue of working whilst unlicensed between licenses in the UK?
Just want to renew these in case I decide to work back in the UK in the next 3 years. SIA website does'nt cover this issue very well, so thought I'd ask the guys that know. Any advice will be graciously received. Thanks Gary
As far as I know it will just mean that you don't qualify for the half price renewal fee. You would only have to requalify if you'd been unlicensed for about 3 years, and even then I think they waive that if you can show you were working in that sector.
However, if you were abroad for more than 6 months continually you will need to prove a lack of criminal record from that country.
Thanks littlewoman, yep hope it does'nt come to that (asking for an afghanistan criminal record check just isnt gonna happen in my book). But yeah, will plead ignorance when I call them and just ask for a renewal pack. But cheers again anyhow, take care stay safe. Gary
Presumably you were there on rotation so not there permanently. If there is no CRB type thing in the country you've been in the SIA accepta sworn declaration. But I would have thougt if you were working somewhere and also living in a secure company compound then a letter from your employer should help.
As I understand it that "no grace period" means if you won't manage to renew the licence before the old one runs out you won't be able to work legaly in UK in that time between old licence ran uot and new one arrives, plus as it was said above you won't be able to claim the half price discout but this is as far as it goes I don't think you will have to requalify. I missed renewal of mine mine by by 3 weeks because I was abroad and there was no problem with renewing it. And remember the price is now 220 not 245 oh my God WOW! lol
BTW if you continously have a permanent address in UK but you have left the country within last 3 years for more than 6mths, how is the SIA going to know about it if you haven't informed them yourself and caused yourself a lot of additional bollocks with the need of foreign CRB for that time? ... just a suggestion
Yeah thanks, me thinks thats probably the best way to go. Say it was an oversight but that I had'nt worked since they expired anyway. Lets hope that does the trick. Was more concerned that i would have to fork out to re-qualify, so glad that wont be the case. Thanks for your help anyway. G
all i would do is ask em to mail you forms for re-newal, if you aint changed your address in the last 3 years then its easy as.fill em in an send em, you aint got to explain anything at all, they arsed my re-newal up (not a shock) and i applied 4 months before it ran out. i got mt re-newal back months later with the help of my local MP. so bud don't explain anything as you don't need to.
