Is there one Martial Arts that is for Security

Hi I am looking myself for an instructor that carries out self defence classes mainly for women. If you come across anybody please drop me a line. I will do the same.

Don't the police usually get involved in self defence courses for women? You could try asking them.

With regards to security, it's a case of what suits you basically. Nobody expects you to be Jackie Chan but i do think it's wise to have some experience under your belt. Krav maga seems to be a popular one, have a look at the 3 day course being held in London through the forum soon

Aikido would be my choice. I was only taught about 3 moves and they helped through 30 years of police work.

good point there,

training to do 4-5 things well whatever the situation is better than trying to remember hundreds of 'moves'

krav is good though as mentioned.......maybe think about something that plays to your strengths and your weaknesses......

cheers

That depends on how much time you`ve got on your hands and on your patience..

All the Martial Arts are the same...once you finished the 5 years of basic instruction...You will see that after the first 2 Dan any martial art will kind of blend toghether with the rest of the other Martial Arts..

Maybe you are looking for something quicker? Somethig like H2H??

Find yourself a skilled Krav Maga instructor. Not the "fitness instructor" type that went trough a 3 days seminar.

KIMOKEA is right, make sure that the Krav Maga Instructor is really a Krav Maga instructor and not a fitness instructor who once did a short seminar on KM. (This goes up for all Martial Arts)

Seriously, find a Krav Maga instructor who will teach you Krav Maga for Security. Most of the Krav Maga thaught to civilians is Self Defense. Self Defense may not be 100% what you need as a Security Specialist. For example my IKMF instructors teach me almost no holds and locks to restrain another person.

Krav Maga means Contact Combat in Hebrew. It is a proven system of close quarter self defence. Developed and originating from Israel this system has been tried and tested in many real life situtations. Krav Maga is the official close quater combat of Israel's Armed Forces and many SWAT, Law Enforcement and Military units all over the world.

The system has been developed and adapted appropriately for use in everyday life as a self defence system. Krav Maga is becoming very popular all over the world. It is easy to learn, practical and extremely effective as self defence for women and men alike.

I have taught aikido for the past twenty or so years, it may be a starting point for you to find a good aikido instructor. If however you are involved in high level cp work, you find Krav or jkd are better styles to get involved in.

Whatever Martial art, combat system, hand to hand etc you need a good and skilled instructor, without him or her then, to be far you may be wasting your time.

As the National Security College's CQC/self defence instructor I teach what works but in a way that people can understand and go away and develop the skill needed to refine the techniques.

I have an extensive Martial art career, training for 35 years, and what generally people want for lets say security training is ..the dirty fighting techniques. The stuff that works NOW, can be applied SIMPLY, EFFECTIVELY and part of our bodys natural reaction to adverse situations. This is what I teach at the NSC www.nsc.sc plus other 'goodies'.

I have trained and taught all over the world and continue to learn from my teacher in Japan where i go ever year...I say this because at the age of 45 i still want to continue to learn and refine.

In addition to my 'Jap slapping' antics as my friends at the NSC would say, I was also one of the first UK KM (Krav Maga) Instructors back in 1989, I learnt this in Israel when very few outside of Israel knew about it.

If your interested, in what and how I teach effective self defence for CP at the NSC then please PM me.

But as we everything we do regarding skill I will leave you with this little quote I heard " an amateur practices till he gets it right, a profeesional pratices till he doesnt get it wrong"

Whatever system, course etc learning someting in 1, 2 or 3 days dont make you an expert.

its not a martial art but if you want to learn how to hit and avoid being hit, I suggest you start with boxing. It will teach you basics that you can use in any later style you decide to start and is usable immediatly (unlike some more intricate fighting arts). I teach boxing 3 times a week to both male and female classes and it never ceases to amaze me just how quickly my students progress into fighters. It will also teach you a lot about yourself.....;)

Yes, Thor top bloke, we will train with him again once the time permits in our busy schedule.

Ninniku Seishin

Such a small world, I saw Thor when he came over last year for a Tai Kai.
I was in Verbier all last season and will be there next too, so may try and come and visit.

Will try and get on your course when time permits.
