I served 18 months jail term for public order offence section 3 .

The offence was committed 1989 and I was sentenced in in 1990. The offence was when I was 19 years old I'm now close to 56 years old.

I've sent references in and sent a letter. I was director of a charity for many year's and national awards for community/volunteer work within the community.

Worked in security over 20 year's and first time I've had a refusal.

Anyone else been through the intension to refuse and know the time limit. SIA just tell me its a waiting game .The 21 days were up last week .

I'm a different person now to when I was as a teenager. Didn't expect them to drag something up from 36 years ago.

Jon79,
So you have already held SIA licenses if you have worked for 20yrs in security you’ve had at least 6, is that correct?
If so you will need to appeal their intention to refuse get a lawyer, let them quote the rehabilitation of offenders act, and I think you’ll be granted the licence.

Yes I've held licence for last 20 year's. Been working in security since 2004.
The company I work with can not understand why this is happening I've even got enhanced security clearance for working in office blocks connected to Sellafield.

The rules changed in Dec 2025 anyone with a public order offence on record even of spent will have to appeal.

Appeal to SIA went in 1st April and still waiting for answer. Its 33 working days on avarage to get answer. I've got teams meeting tomorrow to terminate my contract and officially unemployed after over 20 year's working in security.

I know SIA are now trying to be more professional but a public order offence from 36 year's ago seems extream.

Anyone been waiting longer than the average 33 days to get an answer on their Appeal?
