    best grab bag

I got this during my last leave and brought it back with me to Afghanistan. (FYI I am not CP but in security) and I absolutely love it. It is now my SHTF kit and holds my sidearm and mags with my radios and other kit perfectly. Also love the three-point straps so they don't go flying off and...

Here we go again - Transiting through Dubai with PPE

Now that I think about it, I carried a whole bunch of Safariland items that I ordered through Tactical Trading in Dubai, including two holsters, and carried them with me on the plane. I was able to bring them back with me to Afghanistan without any issues. Just gets more and more confusing, but...

    Great footwear for Exec CP

I second Rockports; they do rock. I actually got them by chance because I was about to head back to Nairobi and needed a new pair of dress shoes. Used mine for over three years now, and I brought them with me to Afghanistan in case I had to be in a suit (will probably never happen, but my...

Here we go again - Transiting through Dubai with PPE

Holy smokes Ivan, that is rough; sorry you had to go through that. I guess I will have to FedEx them or something; they are usually good with clearing customs at BAF. Just sucks that I have to spend shipping money out of my pocket, but what is a few hundred dollars compared to your safety...

Ex-unit insignia - Do you wear it?

I agree it is not necessary, seems like one is dwelling in the past or eager to show that you were with an outfit and have the relevant qualifications, training and reputation associated with one's time there. I wear a ring from the veteran's association of the unit I served with, but that is...

Volunteering as a medic abroad suggestions?

We worked with AMREF in Kenya and one of our medical officers was hired from them. I also had a subscription for ambulance services, both ground and air for a relatively small fee.

    Medics read this.

Just a small and most likely an insignificant point, but am I the only one who thinks that the industry is "misusing" the term "medic?" I know it is a generic term, and the work has different meanings in different countries/AORs. I was trained in the US as an Emergency Medical...

Rectal Fluid Administration - anyone have experience?

Not sure if this is appropriate, but during my days as an Army Combat Medic, one of our guys found our mascot dog "Max" hyperventilating and unable to move, semi-conscious, under hot and dry weather conditions. Our PA determined that she was suffering from dehydration and subsequent...

    Glock 17 holster

Sorry, was referring to the G-Code SOC models; the OSH and XST models are actually quite cheap.

    best grab bag

Can't agree more with this. I usually grab my 5.11 RUSH Messenger Bag (the old version; now they have three different sizes). I also have my GoRuck GR2 in case we have to evacuate, with all essential docs, water, food, electronics, sleeping bag, hand-cranked radio, etc.

    Which GPS?

Currently using this in Afghanistan; all I needed was a trip computer and the ability to mark MGRS coordinates. Cheap, durable, long battery life, quick satellite acquisition, rugged, waterproof, and backlit screen. Might want to get a screen protector though. You see almost every ISAF (US at...

    Celox or QuickClot?

I know this is not a gauze per se, but in terms of hemorrhage control, has anyone used this before? SWAT-T (Stretch, Wrap, And Tuck-Tourniquet) - Soldier Systems Daily Feel free to smack me in the face if it seems that I have hijacked the thread. That being said, we had been using QuickClots...

    Glock 17 holster

Here is my take on several holsters I used during my 4 years (and still counting) carrying my Glock 19: 1. Blackhawk SERPA CQC This was my first CC holster and I absolutely love it. There have been a lot of feedback regarding the retention system and how so many people were accidentally...

Here we go again - Transiting through Dubai with PPE

Greetings from Afghanistan. I will be going on leave in a few months to the US and I would like to bring some soft armor inserts and a helmet back with me. I have gone through a lot of forums and Google searches but couldn't seem to find any recent information on the restrictions and potential...
