whats your favorite type of key and lock?

They are too big for my liking, I think I would rather have a mortise nightlatch with euro cylinder, and or, electric strike, if I needed a latch. Obviously, the level of security would only be as good as a door handle though.

Anyone use Motorola DP3400 or DP3600

I think that the portables are better value for money because the car sets can only be used in the car, and if you wished to remain discreet, you would have to remove/cover it up somehow.

Anyone use Motorola DP3400 or DP3600

I didn't intend to patronise, but if the frequency that you are using abroad coud require a licence (eg Spanish radio licence), and you do not have one, then you could arrested/fined/charged etc. Ah right - in the pictures and in videos, the DP series appeared to be massive. Ha :D

    Bluetooth for Radio?

The only advantage that I can see if being able to carry the radio in a seperate bag, or leave it on a table say (within 10 metres) and nobody will see wires.

Anyone use Motorola DP3400 or DP3600

Have you? The Ofcom licences permit UK use only. How can you possibly know that your frequency isn't being used in an overseas airport? You could be getting yourself into trouble, if you are not authorised to use the frequency. What is the DP3400/3600 like? Is is much better than the...

    Bluetooth for Radio?

The question is : Why would you want to this earpiece? :) You have a box on the end of it at either end.

Anyone use Motorola DP3400 or DP3600

Hang on a minute folks! These are Licenced Radios and your licence from Ofcom only permits you to use them in the UK, so taking them all over europe, you are not covered to use them abroad. How can you possibly know what frequency Joe Bloggs has programmed into his blank "channel 1"...

whats your favorite type of key and lock?

Has anyone noticed how secure hotel rooms are? Deadlock? Nope - just a yale style latch Alarm? None either CCTV? Not always Static Security? Not on all hotels It doesn't matter whether there is a swipe/prox card with nice pretty lights that change colour, it still doesn't change the...

    Best method of access

Just to make it clear, I do not have an install taking place at this present time. The thread was just a matter of interest. Feel free to post suggestions below. Lets base the replies on a "money no object" scenario to open answers a little more.

    Best method of access

How reliable would you say that the technlology is, based on a system that involved a "reader" (of any type), a seperate controller, mains powered and with a battery backup? Is the controller likely to mal function, or is the chance generally quite small, do you think?

    Best method of access

Key - can be lost or locked in the building (if a nightlatch is used) Code - the code entry can be observed by a potential person aiming for un-authorised access Biometric - an electrical fault or mal function on the control panel can occur [regardless of a backup power supply] If an...

whats your favorite type of key and lock?

"What is your favourite lock?" is like saying "what is your favourite kitchen utensil?" Is it a knife, fork, spoon, corkscrew, bottle opener or whisk? Different locks serve different purposes. Some use a latch, some a deadbolt, and some wrap around. My preferred lock for a wooden...

    SIA badge just arrived QUESTION!!

Why would you? The regulation states that is must be displayed on uniformed guards. The Police would be wrong to make a complaint, and after all - they don't make the rules, they just aim to enforce them. Yep - There is a black one, and a reflective yellow one

whats your favorite type of key and lock?

If the brains are internally based, then that is a good thing :) However, the overide key part tends to offer not the same security as a 5 lever mortise, and appear easier to pick. If they can pick that, then they can probably get through a typical basic euro cylinder though, in any case...

whats your favorite type of key and lock?

When I saw the handle, I thought it looked like the typical latch type thing. I will have to look into it more. Do you have any other locks? The lock is all fitted into one unit, where as, a system would usually incorporate a seperate controller in a secure area. (eg inside the building)...
