Homer.....others will add to this, but generally they are paramedics or SF medics or equivelant who then do a CP course, I also know of some Doctors who are also CP badged.
Marky.....advice I would give to everyone in your position is this:
where is my work going to come from? you dont give much info but I take it you have no CP experience or contacts, then this question will be your bigest problem
Can you afford to be out of work for long periods of time? or...
I would have advised you to stay in the army for the next couple of years if you had the option, due to the economic climate.
to make yourself highly employable/sought after on the CP market....re-enlist in the RMP and work your way into their CP teams would be an option.
Jsems.....You have joined a long and ever growing list, can I ask what advice did your training provider give?
you need to realise quickly that you are your own company to all effect, so send your cv to various companies you find using Google etc...
contact people you know in the industry...
Mediiiic quite rightly refers to the dangers of positional affixia if that happens you enter a whole new realm of trouble!....also incorrect use of quick cuffs easily breaks a wrist.
If you do use restraints then write a full statement as soon as you prcaticaly can and ideally time and date...

this is a competative industry and you are your own best advert.....so be profesional about it.

IMHO you need to think carefully if the way you are thinking is best for you, from your post you don't seem to have any CP experience or contacts. and at 47 are you in a position to be out of work for a considerable length of time...

welcome .......I suggest you do a search on similar threads as there are a lot of them.
every one is looking for contracts and you can't really expect people to do it for you, I would suggest that when you send your cv to companies you follow up with a phone call as they get hundreds...
Papillon.....UK firms with contracts in the pit etc insist on a CP badge, also every one on this site is looking for a contract, it is an ongoing theme in the commercial market you are your own company you need to have the skills/quals the market wants.

TACP....there are plenty of older threads on the subject, do some research and then post your reasons for/against and then we can advise you more.
I would ask you to consider the question....where is your work going to come from? and can you afford to be unemployed for 6 months or more?
