It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that a British soldier from The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, was killed in Afghanistan on the morning of 11 June 2009.
The soldier was killed as a result of an explosion whilst on a deliberate operation near Kandahar, in Kandahar Province.
Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson, said:
"It is with great regret that we report the death of another soldier on Operation HERRICK 10.
"It is an incredibly sad day for the whole of the Task Force but our thoughts and prayers go out to the soldiers of The Black Watch and particularly the bereaved friends and family of the soldier during this very sad time."
The soldier’s next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
Another sad loss, RIP.
