M6VRO,
Firstly have you ever received any form of surveillance training?
I am presuming not, you will get what you desire on EBay, the question intrinsic asked you will become apparent when you get your EBay bug detector and it can't detect "all types" of devices, I doubt you will have the money to buy all the kit you will need to find everything and even if you have lots of cash to spend you do not have the expertise to use the kit and conduct a sufficient sweep to find the varying types of kit used by different agencies.

You would be best served by conducting a physical search..
Best of luck

As per Premier's advice you don't really appear to know what you're talking about - go to Ebay, however be aware that an Ebay detector will only detect an Ebay bug - ie cheap and crap.

But you can impress your friends with your little purchase, even if it's next to useless in the real world.
Any proper devices won't be found without the right kit, knowledge of how they work and how they can be detected.

If you fancy taking up Brain surgery, Screwfix have some good deals on drills at the moment too...

To premier yes I have a little surveillance training, I'm also a very instinctive person who can act on intuition, and it has served me will 8 years on the doors proves that I also hold a current Sia c/p license.
I got a private client and he wants his cars sweeped so I posted to see if anyone can give me some simple advice on bug detectors if I could get a decent on for a few hundred quid that would be great. But judging by your answers seems none of you know what your talking about, I may as well posted my question on Facebook

Dont take it to your heart and listen to sound advice, the past posts only mildly mock and forewarn you of the perils of kit not fit for purpose especially when the instructions for said kit are very hit and miss. The type of kit you are referring to are basically OK as a hobby type of detection ,checking your own room or office, something your wife or partner in a business might have planted,in other words the type of equipment you can buy off the shelf to covertly film or listen to can be detected with a bit of practice by a self learner, remembering that to try and detect these pieces you also have to buy them as well as your detector, remembering the frequencies and the activation of dormant devices that could be hidden by a friend or colleague for you to find with your off the shelf detector. All this is well and good for personal and domestic situations ,even on low threat/risk visited hotel rooms offices for piece of mind coupled with a well planned sectioned physical search of location but when you transpire to corporate and risk searches of Principals residences/embassies/Mil attaches and so forth ,the technical and expertise of the professional planter must be matched by the search teams using scanlock and associated kit costing thousands and is only as good as the operator and his training, also remembering that once searched it is only as cleared as it is ongoing, unless sealed and never entered into again the risk is always there ready to have a plant yet again. There is always a way as the old saying goes "OK when last searched".

M6VRO,

Your clearly to clever for me, you have had a little surveillance training... Ask the company that provided that training to get you some kit!!
8 years on the doors, well that's good to I only did 20 before getting pissed off with the dross that was coming off the SIA production line and stopped providing door teams!
Please do try Facebook there are loads of fools on there that will take your cash and run away laughing... Tell your client your sorry in advance, they may never speak to you again when you f*ck up with your new kit from HK!
I gave you the best advice a total stranger gets for free... As for none of us knowing what we are talking about........
There you've got me, on behalf of all who have posted in this thread... We bow to your wisdom, who was it that provided your extensive little bit of surveillance training? I'll see if I can get on their next short course.

Nearly pissed myself laughing until I realised your probably serious..

alamarhsoldier,

Everything I said was true, including the fact that on most days I have a spare 15 min
So therefore would have enough time to get up to speed with M6VRO, all I want is a decoder pen and some disguises!!!

Hi M6VRO

My advice would be to place an advert on the forum to seek the services of an expert in this specialist field, who will be able to conduct the requisite scans on the various vehicles.

They will have the equipment and the expert knowledge that is required to carry out the task.

The simple advice I would offer you is to advise your client that what he is asking is beyond your skillset, then perhaps put him in touch with someone who can do the job for him.

Probably not what you want to hear but TSCM isn't a matter of getting decent kit, having a little surveillance training and intuition. It is a very technical discipline in itself.

For example, I could go buy a pricey car diagnostics kit, it doesn't mean I'm going to be able to fix my car.

If you do happen to get a bug detector, sweep the vehicle and MISS the bug and that becomes apparent at a later date, then that will harm your professional reputation far more than telling your client that it is beyond your skillset.

Wonder does he already have a copy of the Sunday sport. I offer training classes on cutting eye holes out of it. Im interested to know how 8yrs on the doors proves that someone has a c/p (sic) license.

Buy identical car, weigh it on good scales as a control. Weigh the subject car, if it's a few grams over then there's a device UNLESS the devilish cunning b's took out something of the same weight.

or

Send for a pro, you can't be expert in everything.
