Firm unveils new security measures
A cash-in-transit company which lost 250,000 euro in armed robberies in recent weeks has revealed new measures to protect its staff and money.
Group 4 Securicor said a new scheme will mean no on-board staff will have access to cash within the vehicle during the ATM servicing operation. All notes will also be contained within dye-protected containers while crews are outside their vehicles.
Last week a shot was fired during a raid on a delivery van outside the Bayside Shopping Centre in north Dublin. Detectives are also probing a second raid on staff from the security company as they serviced an ATM on Howth Road, Clontarf on July 3.

As far as I know Securicor money boxes in Belfast have been dye protected boxes for about 10 years now, and the local criminals have developed a way of saving the cash when the box is opened and preventing themselves being covered in the dye.

Obviously this isn't the UK but if all ATM's were to only accept dye cartridges it would make the job so much easier and will require the procedures to be followed. The only problem is the company that only deals with dye cartridges, the surplus work will go to another company that will then use their normal procedures. The crooks will just follow the money.

After a number of bloody hold-ups and a 5 week strike the law in my country changed a few years ago. 'Intelligent cases' are now mandatory for all CIT assignments in Belgium.
The case is programmed and can only be opened in a determined location by a certain person at a fixed time. The CVIT workers can no longer open the case and never come in contact with the valuables.

The result of this is zero aggression against CVIT personnel in over 2 years.

Haven't CIT boxes been fitted with dye-packs for years? I believe they're now investing in SmartWater.

smart water / dye packs. I believe it to be rather simple to overcome the trigger and get at the contents with out being covered or covering the contents. From what i have seen of the boxes can just cut your way in. You cant do this in 5 mins and will take you at least 30 mins with a heavy duty cutter but it is that simple from what i have been told.

Thats standard sop's for G4S in Northern Ireland for years, the boxes are packed on site and the crew just have's to fot them in the ATM'S

There are new boxes out now which dont short out when emmersed in water, the crooks of old used to have a 55 gallon oil drum cut in half filled with water in which they put the box, you would see the car driving away with all the water spewing from the rear of the vehicle.

The matter of breaking into the boxes was openly discussed on another forum website some while back. They came to the conclusion all you needed was a cordless drill and a vacuum. I won't go in to details ;)
