Hi guys , who runs the cheapest MSO C & G fast track 2 day course? . I'm gettin prices from £375- £475 + VAT for the fast track course .

As I've previously predicted, prices for the MSO course are now plummeting and Maritime SVS has just started delivering the MSO Fast track for only £250+Vat

Gents,

Which in your opinion is the better maritime course to do? can anyone tell me about EOS risk and Marsec please

Rew,

Best course as in which one? SSO, MSO, VPO, STCW or best course from the two companies you listed?
If your talking about any accredited course such as MCA SSO, C & G MSO then any certificate is as good as another as unlike the CP industry your TP has little effect on employment (unless it's Ambrey of course who insist on you doing their MSO course). A tick in the box is a tick in the box for accredited courses. IMHO the only course that matters what TP you use is the MFFC where many PMSC have preferred courses and TP's such as Eurotactical are widely respected.

SSO, MSO, VPO, STCW are they not the same? thanks for reply VPO is what i am intrested in thanks!

Rew,
I suggest you have a read of the sticky on the Marsec page.
SSO (soon to be replaced by PDSD) and STCW are approved by the MCA.
MSO is a city and guilds course
VPO is generally a made up name by TP's which would include SSO, anti piracy module etc

Hi Ray,

There are some differences in those courses. STCW is The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers which was adopted by the International Maritime Organisation. So, using your SSO course as an example, having completed your course from an MCA approved provider you will receive a certificate that details you meeting the requirements laid down in: STCW ’78, as amended, Regulation VI/5 and STCW Code Section A-VI/5

There is sometimes a bit of confusion about the different security training such as MSO, SSO and PDSD. On our website (Citadel Security Solutions) we have put together a page that will hopefully answer any questions you may have and what training is what, depending on your role on board ship.

I hope this information helps.

Hi guys

Bit late to this party but here you are.
A company called Colossal in Blackpool charge. £695 inc vat for STCW95 all 4 modules 5day course. Or separate 1 day courses
£210 inc vat for PDSD course 1 day
£540 Inc vat for MSO 4day course
£480 inc vat for FPOS I. 5day course.
These prices seem expensive but I guess it's a matter of convenience, those that travel will need accommodation and those that live local will not.
