Cholesterol.

I've just had one of these 'mid life' checkups.

Blood pressure, fine'ish,
BMI, within the limits.
Fags, don't ask. :(

Cholesterol: Heading in the right direction. Sugar, cakes, chocolate, gone. :) Skimmed milk, (tasteless crap)
Can anyone suggest a civilised alternative to butter ?
Flora: Sh1t.
CBINB: Who are they trying to kid ?
Olivia: Olives belong in a pizza or a martini. NOT in a bacon sarnie or on toast.

C'mon fellers, there's gotta be SOMETHING !

V :(

Dump the milk altogether for almond milk (better than soy in my opinion). The only place I use regular milk now is in brews because almond milk just does not cut it in a brew.

Butter is butter. I have yet to find a decent alternative.

Dump more meat from your diet too, there are actually some pretty damned good alternatives to some of the cholesterol feeders like burgers that are made from the veggie stuff that you are hard pushed to taste the difference between.

Dump meat ?

Never gonna happen, the fags have gone, the beers rationed, chocolate / cake, etc are dim and distant memories... :(

REAL burgers are infinitely better than anything from a freezer pack, and bacon sarnies are a Sunday morning tradition that I absolutely, positively am NOT going to give up on !

Theres a pretty decent sunflower spread out there, I'm out at the moment so of course can't remember the name of it, will revert...
In terms of meat, just grill it instead of frying, eat lean cuts, cut the rind of the bacon (I know, I know), stuff like duck and game are good alternatives and not too bad for cholesterol.................and try a bit of exercise, weights as opposed to cardio, you can do it at home AND it's more manly, Grrrrrrrr!!!

Man up, there's a lot to be said about the Cholesterol being a fraud... that in fact its good for you.

research is key

EXPOSING THE CHOLESTEROL FRAUD | The Dr. Rath Health Foundation

STATIN NATION - Film Synopsis

STATIN NATION (First 13 mins) - YouTube

Eat like a butcher and not a baker. Drop grains entirely.. all of them, cavemen didn't bake!

Eat meat and veggies.. raw veggies and loads of meat, all meat, even the meat no one likes.. eat it! Liver and kidneys and all that stuff. Lift weights and swear a lot.. smoke cause it's manly. And never, ever make a noise when you stub a toe!

Good luck

Keep butter in your diet... whats the breakdown of HDL and LDL cholesterol? Because not all cholesterol is created equal!

If you want to change up your diet to make it healthier... I'd suggest ignore a lot of the malarkey that comes out of health professionals and look at zone diet or paleo... on either of these you will become much healthier generally speaking.

There's so little cholesterol in milk I doubt that semi-skimmed is making that much difference. I suspect that with tea and coffee people add milk until the colour looks right and so end up using more semi-skimmed. As for butter, maybe you're better just using less of it, spread it thinner or if your using it in cooking, use sunflower marg instead.
If you happen to like cream cheese, try your local health food shop for the soya alternative as it actually tastes much better. Likewise they should have some soya ice cream that comes in a hexagonal black tub (I forget the name) which is delicious.

As others have said, cut down on fatty meat, you'll also find most processed food is worse than stuff you make yoursel.. You don't have to totally cut out stuff you enjoy, just eat less of them or less frequently.

Read "The China Study"

Single biggest study of human eating ever conducted and one major conclusion.

Also: I'll take the word of peer reviewed science over the word of an absolute minority who try to dismiss the dangers of cholesterol. The peer reviewed science, studies and tests all suggest that there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol.

And the money argument hardly stands up outside America. Unless this company has paid of each and every single researcher in the field and suppressed peer reviewed science.

But then there is this, with its sources all cited and referenced:

Seems the good Dr. Rath is rather rebuffed by his own peers.

Lose weight. Simply drop calories overall. If you do, cholesterol levels will drop with it.
Get your calories right and and everything else will follow.

negative mate,i've seen skinny's with horrendous cholestrol levels.eating healthy fats is the best way of doing it,avacado's in particular.keeping meat & eggs in the diet in moderation is still good as it has a good effect on male hormones, whereas soya products are gash for a male, unless you want to turn into a woman

Hi Visioner,

A good alternative to butter is: Coconut oil
I started cooking with it first to see what it was like, now I spread it on toast, it tastes good and not too powerful coconut.
Have a research for yourself it is very healthy.

I had a mate who used to really take care of himself (Obsessive and slightly odd at times)
He used to brag at how low his Cholesterol was while we tucked into a bacon butty
He died of a Stroke at age 42 last year.

Cut out the obviously harmful stuff, cut down the dodgy stuff and enjoy the rest while you're still here :)

Not to get all conspiratorial but most 'scientific' studies for medical purposes are funded by big pharma, and guess what?
Big pharma make a lot of money from selling chemical medicines, this leads to the promotion of drugs like statins by doctors.

Prominent heart doctor exposes the myths about cholesterol, statins and low fat diets

Question everything, question Doctors, they're only people like you and me and are prone to the same human weaknesses and pressure/influence. Always look for alternative natural treatments rather than immediately putting chemicals into your body without any thought. That's not to say there are no merits to allopathic medicine, of course there are but many times there are better natural alternatives.

I use rice milk on me weekabix and poor ij, with added bran flakes (sends it toffee ish in the popety ping) and skimmed milk in my brew. Butter = Country life lighter. It tastes good and works particularly well with wilkins tawny marmalade as served up by the mem sahb.

Exercise and keeping the stress down is the key though. So by sending, the mem sahb out for a run regularly, it definately keeps my colesterol down.

Oral sex (receiving, not giving) is the only substitute I know of for butter. Seriously, I know it may sound smartass but the logic is very simple. Every time you would like to add some butter to something, and I mean every time just whip out the monster and allow whom ever your stand in nutrition specialist is going to be get to work. But for this to work you have to do it every time, no cheating, no denial games, you really need to be honest with your self and your stand in nutrition specialist for this to work.

I know it may sound sexual but it is not, if you try this program for only one month you will then realize exactly how often you crave butter, you would be shocked to find out what all you would like to have with butter as well.

After the one month trial period you will then be able to evaluate your terrible butter habit and decide actually how long you need to be on this program. For some it is an on going battle and they have to live with this their entire life.

Best of luck to you and your stand in nutrition specialist.

Upgrade your butter, there is evidence that less-processed dairy products are beneficial in reducing cholesterol. So find a local farm shop or such and get their best milk, butter, yoghurt etc.

If you need some inspiration I can send you some ;)
