There are various forms of Close Protection available.

High Risk work in places like Iraq and Afghanistan seems to be popular at the moment due to the demand and excellent payment rates.

The downside is of course, the high risk, the fact your in a foreign country without maybe the backup if you were in the Armed Forces..

Low risk work is available in the UK for basically people with money. Could be politicians, royalty, celebrities from the world of film, music and television, sports personalities, heads of industry.

Low risk Close Protection Work includes:

carrying out premises checks before the clients arrival.
Prevent Physical attacks and threatening situations
planning and reasearch to try to prevent threats and disruption
Helping get clients to and from venues.
escort the clients on business and social visits

Threats to clients could come from a range of sources including:

criminals (threat of kidnap for ransom)
political opponents
stalkers
over enthusiastic fans.
terrorist organisations (unlikely with low risk)

Some Close Protection work may involve residential security. Basically ensuring the client's premises are secure. Other work may include training to to be chauffeurs specialising in defensive and evasive driving.

I anticipate CP in the UK being difficult to get my foot through the door initially.

which would be a good route to start off on? Ive done the Iraq thing with the army and have no intention of going near the place again. Uk work only for this callsign.

Ive been looking a little at aviation security, whats the feeling on that? anyone?

i have done cp in iraq was ok but trying to get in to cp in uk i have my cp licence no one is interested maybe my cv is all wrong dont know any advice

A lot of people overlook the market thats between the DS/SG range but below CP. I mean for example, high risk escorting of valuables (not CVIT). People (professional ones at least) won't give that to someone with the the SG/DS licenses but want the CP one since it is most appropriate to the task.

High risk events; like arms fares where a higher level of qualification is desireable.

Secure couriering.

There is a wide range of work available to the humble CP operator; what people are sick of when offering such work is "Yeah but when do I get to look after... X" X being some rich guy/celeb...

In my opinion, some of the other work is much more exciting and rewarding.

Hi Scab

Secure couriering sounds pretty good, where or who would I look at for this type of work? I have my CP badge and looking for RST work too? and high escorting.

Get to know people, the work will come to you!

Contacts, contacts contacts, just don't be a whore. People looking for contacts are seen to be looking for contacts!

You say get to know people? You put on your reply pointing out that there is "other" work outthere for CPO,you pointed out the areas that are interesteing to work in. I was merely asking who the companies are that offer this type of work you have explained. As I'm not just looking for CP work and don't see the other jobs you pointed out as beneth me. This forum is itself a networking tool.

Most networking is done on jobs with the guys who see you work and therefore see you work well and get on with you. Then they bear you in mind when they know theres a job open elsewhere that needs filling.

You want me to provide a list of companies? Thats not networking; besides whats the point in me giving you a list of companies to cold call!

Get on whatever jobs you can. Like many others I started out doing the well dressed events. Then met people and made the contacts who sent work my way. There you work with more people and make new contacts and friends who send yet more stuff your way.

Yes this forum is a networking tool, though its substantially different and not nearly as viable as the networking you will do face to face.

Get stuck in mucker!

Fair point mate, just seem to be bangin me head off a wall at the mo. Just been looking intop the high value stuff on the net and just about to av a butchers on the arms fares you talked aboutr, see what the score is on that. As the market is so competative at the moment and swomped with guys, work is at a premium. Will see whats about and crack on.

Cheers for the info o an kick up the Arris

Many of us have been there mate. Just keep motivated and show out as one of the lads people want next to them. Show the humility and good humour and you will be surprise what work some of the guys around you do to top up the bank.

It might take a while, but in my own humble opinion I think persistance is whats weeding out much of the chaff at the moment. That and a lack of the aforementioned.

wow just the sort of thread i needed to read i'm starting to feel a bit disillusioned.. getting my foot on the ladder is hard i'm stuggling a bit but hay i'll keep trying .. it's where to look i'm findind the difficult bit.
