Door supervisors are also known as bouncers, door stewards and doormen. They re responsible for the security of staff and customers bars, pubs and nightclubs. They also work in other licensed premises, special public events and taxi queues.
They maintain order keeping people safe.
They control entry into the venue, checking the suitability of people coming in. They may check ID to confirm that the person is not underage. They may enforce a dress code, and they may carry out searches of people for objects such as drugs or weapons. They can refuse entry to anyone they consider unsuitable.
Their door supervisor duties can include:
- controlling queues to avoid crushing and queue jumping
- dealing with conflict inside and outside the venue. Watching people's behaviour.
- escorting people out of the venue and if required restraining people, if necessary
- dealing with emergencies such as fights.
- supervising people as they leave the building making sure they do not have any alcohol in their possession.
- Assisting First aiders, management and the police.
