Quick question, to top up my income is it possible to just ring up a builder and get employed by them on a nightshift for security on their site, I'm SIA licensed but don't want to start a security company, is it possible to do this?

Sorry if it's an obvious dumb question.

Thanks.

Depends on your attitude to taxation/insurance etc mate.
Theoretically yes, but if it goes tits up who gets left holding the can???

Whether your 'self employed', sole trader, or ltd company, it comes down to the fact that you're marketing yourself.

Being 'flexible' with your attitude to taxation / insurance, has pro's and con's. How good's your accountant ?

Get it wrong, and HMRC will be haunting you for years to come.

As far as approaching the builder, sure, go for it, but not on the basis of of 'gissa job'. They're a professional (Hopefully), and if the figures stack up, they'll go for it. Offer them a professional service, better than what they have at the moment. (NOT cheaper necessarily , you'll be cutting your own throat.)

If all they want to pay for is a cheap warm body on the ground, 'x' hours, are you sure you want to go for it ?

Of course you can. You don't need to be a company. You can be self employed or you could even be on the builders payroll if you like.

That's what I was hoping for, I got a 20hr per week job as a loss prevention officer but it wouldn't pay the bills so I'm looking something else as well, any and all suggestions are welcome.

Builders payroll would be the best, plz keep replys coming

thanks
