Hi,

If possible would like to ask you all if you can help with a situation i have.

I have a uhf/vhf programmable radio which i wish to use on jobs as some of the radios i have been given are should i say not fit for service.

The problem being on this job now i know the TX Freq and the RX Freq (found via a scanner). I programme the radio and when i try to send a test message nothing is heard on the net in use. I can hear the net but not able to send messages.

The radio system in use is a motarola system with base station and x5 Hand held radios.

I think my radio is working as when i do send the test message, the scanner does pick this up on the correct freq.

I have setting which i have turned off to do with CTCS and DCS tones. (Both TX & RX).

Could this be the problem as the TX & RX Freqs are different, so i think a repeater is in use.

If this is the problem is there a method of finding out the tone i need to commicate with the net in use. Or do i have to go though the list to find the correct tone. My scanner does not pick up and shows these tones.

I have searched the internet and hope that someone with expert knowledge of this subject can help on this great forum.

Look forward to hearing your views.

Stay Safe,

Andy

Hi Andrew

Firstly, on the receiver , make sure squelch is turned down.

Secondly, If the receiver is not hearing the transmission (but your scanner does) then you need to see if CTCSS (continuouse tone coded squelch system) is activated on the receiver or if DCS (digital coded squelch)is activated.

These are designed to only receive wanted transmissions ie team members etc, and if you are not transmitting the correct tone, the receiver will not open its squelch therefore no audio will be heard.

All the frequencies for ctcss and dcs are programmable, so you need to know what the receiver is set too.

Hope it helps

Just a quick one....make sure your tx and rx are the correct way around. ie on the receiver the rx frequency may be set the same as your motorolla and therefore your tx will not be on the receivers rx frequency
Hope it makes sense.

Hi Geordie64

Thank you first for taking the time to answer my question.

I took your advice and now the situation is now sorted and now using this radio on the net.
The problem was that i had not set the CTCSS Setting correctly.

Stay Safe,
Best Regards,

Andy

Hi Andy

I replied to this one on the BBA forum, did you see it? If you are in London any kind I can scan your radios with our CD100 decode the PL tone for you. Just let me know.

Cheers

Andy
