I've now been doing hospital security for 1 year 3 months and just wondered how other hospital security in the UK Deal with different situations

1. Missing patients?

@ my job we get told off the ward description and when last seen then look for the patient if found try to persuade them to return to there ward of they walk off site it's up to the ward sister if police are informed

Only time I will restrict them going is if there are in a bad state of mind ( wanting to kill his self) or head injury in A & E

2. Sectioned patient ?

To my understanding of a patient is sectioned they have there rights to leave taking away from them so security can't be called to stop the patient from leaving at any point

These are the main things that need clearing up in the hospital security industry can anyone add or advice on these situations

How do you record incidents that have occurred?

Some constabularies make use of the 'Appointed person' scheme that authorises certain people to act on behalf of the Police and enforce certain laws.
 
Hi Mark,

You need to see your own hospitals policies and procedures any advice on here as to what you should do on a tactical level could be contrary to what they want you to do. You should also have a full brief on such issues so you need to clarify this within your own management structure and have something in writing.

If someone was killed, say in an RTC, and you could have prevented them leaving the hospital you could be answering some difficult questions from a Coroner. Get it in writing what exactly is expected of you. Advice on this forum could range from fantastic to rubbish but it is not what you need mate.

Thank you for all the responses to this post as we all know the hospital environment can be very challenging and shearing experiences and situations can help others deal with similar situations keep them coming in

organise a non official meet up then, so nice bar/pub could work. Bunch of us, not a CPW meet (as we would need a conference hall) just a small social.
