Hello all,

While there are many professional certifications available for investigators and security professionals there is no professional certification available for professionals engaged in physical surveillance. I would like to see a professional certification developed for surveillance specialists that sets the standard for professional excellence in surveillance and is recognized worldwide as objective proof of an individual's professional knowledge and experience in surveillance.

Are there others who feel such a certification would be valuable and are interested in obtaining such a certification? Second
What do you feel should be the minimum standards for obtaining such certification? Finally, are there any surveillance experts & trainers out there who would be interested in collaborating with me to form a qualification board and awarding body and developing the certification process?

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Oh Yeah, sure this place is full of experts. If you include shuffle board then I too am an experts, I am also pretty good at making fat cry. I know, its a gift.

Why would you want to see such a standard? What would it achieve apart from money in the hands of training providers and awarding bodies.

Minimum standard would be at least be able to drive on the course, which is not a prerequisite in the UK for some, as you aint realistically going to get a job unless you can.

All the big, and not so big, companies in the UK want you to do their course before employment and that will never change and no reason why it should.

And what would your definition of a surveillance expert be? Someone who never gets 'pinged'? Stay at home and you're an expert!

Even the best get burned. In my opinion an expert has at least 5 years professional experience conducting physical surveillance in both urban and rural environments, has successfully completed an advanced level law enforcement, intelligence agency or military physical surveillance course, has provided advanced level training in surveillance or counter surveillance and has verifiable experience conducting surveillance of a variety of targets including criminal street gangs and organized crime groups, narcotics traffickers and terrorist suspects.

And what about the civvies that have none of that?

I know some exceptional surveillance operators that have never served in Police/Military or any Govt. They are complete civvies! Some have done less than 5years, others have done more.

When you get done herding Vis's cats, he's got some jelly that needs nailing to the ceiling.................:)

A certificate is not going to help, if any one coming on a surv team has bullshitted their experience it wont take 5 mins for them to be found out then they are off the team. It will be the same as the CP licence, just because you have one it dosent mean you can do CP
I have a mixture of ex mil ex pol and civvies on my teams and that works well for me, in your world of certification my civvies would not be able to work.
