Could anyone recommend a decent place for dog training in S. Yorks, Humberside, Lincs area? Preferably some obedience based training for a 16 month old Police K9 who hasnt made the grade?

This is a UK based board and there are some great trainers on there. I know because I'm the administrator of that forum and have been there since day one. :)

Just out of curiosity...if this is a police K9 washout, did he not get lots of obedience training before they let him go? OB is usually trained first and it is later they find that the dog doesn't make the grade.

Howard - she has received Ob training, and quite a lot however I am looking at taking her on more and more..... still don't want her to loose her other skills she was taught as well.

Ok. I figured. Go to the forum, introduce yourself, then ask about locating a trainer. Anyone suggested is usually someone you can trust. The members there are pretty straightforward so if a shite trainer is recommended someone will point that out. Try to get one of the many trainers that are on that board. I have conversed with nearly all of them and they know their stuff. You need to be honest in what your expectations are and why the dog was washed out. A proper test of the dog is imperative if you are considering doing personal protection training with her. Some dogs are just happier to be pets than man eaters. To force a dog to do protection work when they do not have the temperment will cause behavoral problems and liability of a bad bite can go up. Take the trainer's advice. She is what she is. Do not push her beyond her capabilities.

Good advice there. It will be interesting to read current views on this important topic.

Diesel,
Are you still in contact with the force that let the dog go?
If so ask them for details of their latest retired dog sergeant, they are always willing to help.
They also will only train the dog for the good guys, obviously
I don't know you so only you know which category you will fall into.

Regards
