See following link ... especially story (on lower page) confirming that Lazcano (Zetas cartel) was identified by DNA tests as dead. Two things ...
1. Clearly there was close US involvement with this kill - DNA samples were taken from the body shortly after death.
2. The article goes into more detail about US strategy against the cartels in Mexico.
