Leaving the RN into commercial CP

Afternoon all!

I am after some advice with regards to getting into the commercial CP sector and resettlement courses.

I have spoken to a few mates who are on the circuit and they've advised me various courses etc.

Can anyone point me in a direction of a company or two that can help me further with resettlement courses etc?

As the title says, I am Royal Navy! Have been a comms specialist for last 9 years, I fancy the career change to get my teeth into something new!

I did email a company owned by ex matelot, as I thought he could help but he never replied!

Any help at all is appreciated!

Cheers,

Kaz

if you look up which companies are involved with the resetlement process and go from there speak to the companies, ask them your questions most are more than willing to offer you advice and assistance. Spend time looking around for the best course that suits your needs if you use the search facility here you can look up companies and get some feedback, but i'd always recommend talking to them yourself. It is your money perse' and your choice only you can decide which course is right for you. Don't rush it though do make plenty of calls and make a list of what YOU want from your course and what suits you individually

Good Luck

Thanks Annie for your response, I have a clear head now where to start etc, anymore help off anyone is appreciated.

Cheers,

Kaz

Do a kit check find out what you have that is saleable. For example most hostile area companies still operate on HF and VHF etc these are skills in demand. More so in the UN or NGO they are very much in demand. Keep looking at your current skills and focus on security in today’s technological world. What you will see as a growing danger is anyone can be the target of some level of covert electric eavesdropping. If you know about the frequency range and the concept of a radio you are on level one of the fastest growing skill requirement in the industry. Or you can do a CP course and be a matelot with a gun and if you do find work all the Marines and Para’s with take the P*&(( out of you.

Cheers NGIP for info, do you know of any companies / courses etc that are after such skill?

Oh and some matelots with guns arent too bad!

Cheers

Hi Kaz,
Welcome to CPWorld.
With regards to resettlement and courses go to your Education Centre and speak to a Carreers advisor.
Point out what area / genre of the Security Industry you are aiming at etc.
Also The Carreers Transition Partnership are very helpful with advice and companies affiliated to the ELC Enhanced Learning Credits scheme etc.
As far as i can remember these companies work with the CTP & ELC Scheme.
Anubis
Task International
Clearwater Special Projects
There maybe more but i can't remember of the top of me head etc.

As previously mentioned do plenty of research on each company and ask plenty of Q's.
And think long and hard before blowing the best part of £2500 of your resettlement grant on a course mate..
Good luck & Stay Safe.

Kaz,

We could do it but to tell the truth its a lot of bother doing it for one guy. If the navy was paying for it then it could be an option. We have about 1/4 mil of kit and one top instructor– operator and a couple of understudies but to run a one on one course would not be profitable or it would cost you too much. Also if we got got a sweep job it would mean dropping everything and taking the kit off. What area are you in, if you are north England we could arrange for you to pay him a visit and see the stuff he uses???
