A friend of mine once spoke about carrying diamonds in a briefcase from one part of the country to another and getting paid well for his efforts.

Does this still go on and if so how do you get more information about a career in this field?

Regards,

CM

PS CVIT crew lets get this part of the forum moving and lets get some more guys from CVIT in the forum. Im sure you can see from other sections that once the ball starts rolling this part of the forum will become a real asset.

UK Diamond Bourse , Hatton garden london have people who do that, most people in the diamond trade be it : jewlers.traders bourse members, tend to rely on close friends and family "old school" for transport .and use different covert methods of carrying and transporting their goods in the UK and to abroad, I know Malka Amit ltd out of the diamond Bourse also transport, but no company link, - every country has a diamond bourse just like the gold trade, its all very close nit , but if i find any more info ile let you know.

Hi CM,
I used to stuff the diamonds in a little pouch inside my pants - imagine Rudolf Nureyev and his cod-piece (that was me!). This was in Africa of course, in the mid-late 90's. Nothing like 2-5 Millions worth of rocks grating against your own..
after 6 months of this - no need for razors hehe
Mind you, some of the "sellers" used to stuff their little rocks up all kinds of places where the sun dont shine - and then the bloody buyers would handle all this stuff with their fingers, and then, pick their noses after! yuk!
Sorry to share this with you..

The only people that I know personally that do this kind of work are all ex SF.Old boy network. Anyone else has no real chance of getting on board. That is how it is in this particular game.

So for the guys who have / are doing this, what SIA card do you do the work under? CVIT or DS/CP/Security?

Low Profile CVIT

Hi mate,
My knowledge is from a few years ago before I left the Army. I knew several ex SF guys that were and did this kind of work. This was long before the SIA came along.
Good question what license.
As far as I am aware they were always providing a discrete close protection low profile escort to a worker within the actual industry. Therefore it stands to reason that a Cp license would be required for this . But in the current climate of licenses. You will most probably now have to have the CVIT license as well. This would be an add on to your CP.
Also the guys I know were typically not very military looking. No brit outhouse types need to apply because you stand out too much. I would describe this kind of work personally as ultra low profile work. You were talking being responsible for millions at a time.
It would be interesting to know if I am right re license side of life.
When you look at the circuit and how it has developed this will come under a circuit within the circuit type of thing. Very closed shop. It is only logical that it would be so.
Hope this clarifies things for you. I stress only my opinion.

Cheers for your comments. The only reason I ask is that I have both a CVIT and CP licence and have heard a lot of people doing such low profile jobs classing them as "asset protection" and then doing it under the CP licence. The asset obviously being a chunck of whatever.

I don't think a CVIT licence is an add on to a CP licence as they deal with very differant things but I suppose a licence wouldn't be required anyway if you are employed directly in house!?

Does that make any scence?

Hi,
I do not mean add on to cp as in added to it. It is a separate licence but you would be able to produce it as and when required. As for classing it all as asset protection . Good comment probably is being done that way to avoid getting another license. The companies employing people are the ones who would be scrutinised and penalised if found to be wrongly employing as per the license categories. Obviously the chances of getting looked at are probaly slim given the resources of the SIA etc. Enforcement is only a very small part of their remit as in all these types of things , all the government is interested in are the revenue from siad license and then persuing the big players that abuse the system.
Going back to my main line of thought on this topic. I would honestly think that there will be little chance of this kind of work unless you have an "IN " to help get you on board. Even though you have a cp as well as a cvit license.
My own intention is to add a few extra categories to my own CP license. It is due hopefully next week. once I get it I am then in the situation myself of getting back into the loop of things hence joining this site and networking. Your walk99 name I have seen before. Not looked back to find it. Are you or were you on the ex para now nasp website?
I cannot pm yet as new to this site. Will do once that is sorted.

That would be me. I aggree with what you say about this type of work, it's conducted in very small circles. I've only ever used my CVIT licence on one job since leaving the commercial company I obtained it through. Would be handy to put it to some use though concidering i got it for free!

On a slight other note, there are vehicles available that are not that obvious as CiT's, we have a Hilux version that 'hopefully' you can view below this, any help or info needed on Cash in Transits please don't hesitate to PM me as we offer just about all versions:

Saw similar vehicles out in South Africa, not quite as refined as the one pictured but definitely less obvious than some of the beasts that companies use

Hi,

Agreed.
I did a bit of 'watch transportation' a long time ago, due to being good mates with the son of a jeweler.
I wont go into detail, but it was VERY low pro, student looking, scruffy backpack etc

No idea what goes on these days, but it wouldn't surprise me if it hasn't changed much.

Without breaching opsec too much:D........You would be correct!;)

Its pretty much in-house stuff, most guys doing it know the Shipper or buyer, so getting the work is hard but possible if you know the right person..

Transportation wise. its been suggested to me and i know a guy who does it, uses a tailor-made suit jacket which has small sewing compartments in it.. just looks like a normal suit but can carry vast amounts.. they normally split the pay load up so that small teams can operate.. also as mentioned in other thread it is very low profile and it is very profile matching, so you must not stand out..
