Security Guards
We are looking for men and women to join our close-knit team committed to protecting the Service's premises and people. Throughout the day you will be engaged in a range of duties, which may include internal and external patrols, monitoring CCTV screens, carrying out vehicle checks and random exit searches. You will also respond to fire warnings and drills and work closely with the receptionist team in dealing with staff and visitors.
Requirements
No formal qualifications are required. You will undergo a programme of in-house and external training. What is important to us is your qualities; you will be expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn, along with judgement, excellent team working and interpersonal skills. You will be dealing diplomatically with a variety of people from different backgrounds, whether staff or visitors. Your calm and professional demeanour will give them confidence that the Service is well protected. Your alertness and quick-thinking will enable you to respond to the unexpected.
Training
This begins with your attainment of the SIA guarding license. Subjects will include conflict management and communication skills. You will undertake in-house and external courses, first aid training, customer care and fire safety, as well as benefiting from on-the-job coaching covering the operation and management of security systems and procedures for all our buildings. The Service is committed to personal development, and you will be given time to pursue opportunities through our Open Learning Centre, as well as joining colleagues from other areas of the Service on in-house courses.
To be eligible to apply, you must meet our residency criteria. You must be a born or naturalised British Citizen and one of your parents must be a British Citizen or have substantial ties to the UK. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for 9 out of the last 10 years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. Due to vetting requirements you will need to be 18 years old, or above, to apply. Your application may take around 6 months to process.
Discretion is important to the Service, so please only discuss this application with your partner and/or immediate family.
