new and no experience!

Hi Jayod,
you going in the right direction, im in the same boat ,i have ex military experience which ended a long time ago in 99 ,since then ive been a security controller ,worked in aviation security as a team leader and hold a psa licence in Dublin.I am currently providing security advice to companies and private individuals privately part time but the private security industry in ireland is rotten psa licences are ten a penny and companies dont care about your experience here and pay peanuts.
I want to do the same as you and get into personal protection but dont know what direction to go in ,would even serve in Iraq or Afghanstian if had a chance to do so.If you get anywher let me know and ill do the same if i do

Currently i am studying in college fetac level five Security and level six both a year long, can anyone tell me are these useful or would i receive the same level of knowledge from attending a much shorter course its basically just a door security and basic guarding, but seemly it will open doors into customs and Airport work, i will provider links to the college if anyone interested in viewing the course to better understand what i am asking.
Once again i would like to say hello and looking forward to chatting on here.

Hi Andy,
I don't know your personal circumstances. Either way use those courses as a stepping stone, always look to progress and never stop improving your knowledge.

Anyway,
If I was you I wouldn't bother with the level 5 course and go straight into the level 6 course doing the supervisory and security management module, get it done in a week and get FAS to pay for it then get a job doing security, prove your worth then apply for a supervisory position and then save for a CP course if that's what you want to do.

Good luck either way.

Hi

I'm new to the whole world of close protection and i looking to find out if there is any one or company out there that will give a "green horn" like me a start. I realise that i have to start ant the coal face as they say but i'm not a fool and i always knew that but where does one like me start, who will even give me a chance and not treat me like a "dogsbody"but actually help??? i hope some one out there has some answer's for me and that, hopefully i can make a start.

Thanks

Jayod

If your looking at HE CP, forget it unless you have served for a min of 5 years, cracked out a few operational tours in the last 2 years and have reached the rank of SNCO. If you do not meet this criteria, forget it. This is on top of:

Completing a recognised CP course, not some Mickey Mouse made up course.
Medical qualifications
Clean CRB
Clean driving licence
Firearms course if you have not been in the Mil

If your looking for commercial in the UK / Europe, go for it.

Be lucky,

Thanks for the insight,
''prove your worth then apply for a supervisory position and then save for a CP course if that's what you want to do''.
Just what i was discussing the other day and is the way i am going to go about it.

I will in the position soon to really decide on one of the top course that you guys have told me about and hopefully do well in it.

Why the requirement to be former SNCO. You're not commanding a PL.
Some private's and lance jack's have more tours than Sgt's these days.
Funny how companies will take a vet's money and not mention that to 'em 'till after.
Again, must have mil experience, but the the blokes who experience the sharp end get told the piss off.
