Hi All

New to this. I was in the army for 16 years and have been out for a while. Looking at the endless companies offering trg and cash being a bit tight want to try and make the best choice possible. I am looking at doing to Afgan/Iraq can anyone give advice on to what courses potential employers look for, and point me in the right directioin of a decent provider. I have looked at threads and that hasnt helped.

Cheers:confused:

Hi Andy....you are in exactly the same boat as me so to speak. I've been on the site for a couple of months now and have done a lot of research on the best way to spend my savings. I have made a decision and have booked a course in Feb that I believe offers a really good package for a very reasonable price. Take your time and do a lot of research, everything you need is here mate....fire away if you have any questions

Pierre

Andy, take morrigan up on his offer. As a former student i can honestly say that there instruction is second to none and your gaurenteed agood laugh along the way. They are also very supportive after your course.

At the end of the day the course needs to fit YOU! Thats all, it is what YOU want as an individual, and you know when you find it, but ask lots of questions and there are loads of great training providers here to choose from and others elsewhere. But we all have our favourites remember it is what YOU want.

Hi, I have a question, I am a RMC (Royal Marine Commando), have been for about 6years. I'm trained from small arms to heavy weapons, First Aid, CQB, many other things. I not saying I have done it all or anything like that, just to spend around £3000, is a lot of money when I dont know how hard it is to get a job in the CP world. I am wanting to do a course, but should I have to pay for some thing that I have already done though the corp, also I am planning on moving and living in the USA, do they have better courses and companies to work for; if so could you let me know. thank you

Thanks

Thanks for all the replies and help, have now decided and have to live with that decision good or bad. WEill let you know how i get on.

Cheers

Andy:D

Morrigan just want to say thank you for your comments my research points very much to yourself & the other named training provider so I am doing something right. It's just matter now of which to choose!

Not a problem mate, we are here if you need us for anything.

joshualcar, reference your post mate. You might have been the bees knees as a RMC,worked the PIT etc in Iraq and probably Afghan, but CP is slightly different. You need to learn the techniques we use as CPO's,being a soldier is one thing an a CPO is another.

24/7 I am not for one minute saying I was or am the bees knees as a RMC, all i was trying to do was state what I had done, and paying £3000 so that you can be shown how to fire a weapon would be a waste of money I fell for some like myself, or anyone in my shoes, therefore should I just spend money on a basic to get a SIA license.

I'd say that depends upon whether you are planning on doing work in the UK and the like or going to sandy shores (minus the shoreline), I think there are a lot of guys who despite being ex mil do take a hostile environment course to refresh possibly their previous skills.

From what i know, there is a great difference between working in hostile places with the army and doing it in the private sector, well so my better half tells me anyway.

It's always a personal choice at the end of the day and only you can make the choice as to whether it would be a waste of money or cash well spent.

Evening Joshualcar

I totally understand where you are coming from mate but I would advise to go for the best course available, that will cover every aspect regardless on whether you have trained in these elements before.

Some employers may purely shortlist based on the training company and course someone went on. Your skills may not ever get to be known if you go for the 'bucket course' option.

Good luck with it all.

Regards

JHD

OK Joshualcar, now i am with you mate, like annie said and the other members it depends where you want to go. You've done the pit already as an RMC, so where do you want to go mate, commercial? UK, then you don't have to spend your money on weapons training, the pit, thats a different story as you well know. I have no idea on the standards of weapon drill that the RMC do or hold, but it may differ to the training that CPO,PSD Operators learn, the way we draw our pistols, the way we use our longs etc. Once you know where you want to go, then you can base your training on that environment.

24/7 I basically want to go back and work in the sand, therefore I dont understand why I need a SIA license, one question I would like to know, does anyone know of a course in USA which is as good as the top course in the UK. thanks for your replies.

don't quote me on this one but don't blackwater do courses? And i think jmacauley is in the training business but not 100% sure, try him maybe

Annie, Blackwater normally don't allow foreign operators to train by them, thats what I have heard! but i 'm sure its not what you know its who you know. Try Trojan joshualcar, or at least ask about them, ring them and ask what they provide in training. A question mate, why the USA for training, have you a reason why, or are you willing to train in other countries?

Hi mate,

To answer your question - An SIA licence is a pre-requisite for some Security organisations even though they are operating within the Middle East as this is what the clients are demanding.

If the clients demand it then the companies will provide - as if they don't the 'Said' clients go elsewhere to spend their cash!

Good luck mate,

CM
