Personal liability insurance in the maritime security field

Does anyone have information on considerations for personal liability insurance for maritime security operatives, for accident and personal liability whilst onboard?

Does working in this environment hold any further problems? Does K&R need to be covered, or does the shipping company cover Security Operatives as supernumeraries?

This request for information is for security operatives taking out their own insurance, and not covered by their contracting security company.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Pussers, Guardcon states the company you are doing transits for should supply adequate Medical Insurance and Personal Accident up to $250000. K&R is generally down to the Shipping Owner or the discretion of the Security Company all worth checking in your contract. Private Security Insurance specialises in all of the above for the individual they can also answer any questions you need. Their web site is
privatesecurityinsurance.co.uk - Domain name holding page - LCN.com. Hope this helps

Correct me if I'm wrong, but basically any K and R policy is invalid if the employees are aware of it, its part of the conditions?

I would never doubt what you say mate. Is this because the Insurance company would sooner you die than have you pleading for your life whilst telling the captors your worth in K+R? It would not surprise me...

The main reason is that if every Tom, Dick and Harry knew they had K & R insurance then they would not be able to resist telling everybody, the word gets back and thus increases your chance of kidnap. Also opens the doors to some skullduggery where vast sums of money are involved.
