Dear Adventurers, guides and medics,

Specialist Operational Support Ltd (SOS) are now offering a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course combined with a climb and summit attempt on Mount Orizaba.

Pico de Orizaba, whilst being the highest mountain in Mexico and the 3rd highest in North America, is an interesting challenge in itself and you'll trek through the pine forests and meadows, scramble through the rock labyrinth and climb the steep, glaciated summit cone to the volcano's summit.

Delegates will join our team of experienced remote area medics and international mountain guides and safely/slowly ascend the mountain whilst receiving medical lectures and conducting scenario based practice at each camp.

Practice: mountain, wilderness and remote medicine in a real, remote, high altitude environment, whilst developing useful and relevant skills, qualifications and mountain experience. Successful delegates will receive the following certifications:

  • American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) - Wilderness First Responder
  • SOS - Travel and Expedition First Aid

These certifications meet the requirements for US and UK outdoor leadership awards (NGBs) and mountain guides.

All of our trainers/medics have high altitude experience, including serving as expedition medics and are mountain leaders in their own right. We have a high guide to delegate ratio (final ratio to be determined based on the delegates individual experience), with our local guides summiting Pico de Orizaba over 100 times between them.

Whether you're a mountaineer looking to test your physiology, a climber who wants to learn realistic mountain medicine or a mountain leader who requires a qualification: this course combines all the ingredients for a great adventure.

If you're interested or have questions regarding the technical or physical requirements, please don't hesitate to contact me through the website.

Look forward to seeing you on the hill. Stay safe.
