Tips for Defensive Driving

Defensive Driving is actually about protecting one from other drivers. One may consider himself or herself as a good driver but everyone else is not like you see the things.

Generally accidents happen at intersection points only. To avoid that you need to learn to stop defensively. First one must make sure to stop in such a way that the person driving behind you don’t get surprised. One should plan ahead to stop by slowering down the vehicle so that the person behind you gets proper time to stop. Also one must pay attention to where one would like to stop. One should always leave space in front of vehicles to avoid accidents.

Visioneer !!!!!!!
I'm surprised at you.
Remember the special relationship.
Do as your told, be supportive and act as interpreter.
2 nations divided by one language and all that.

It's our language, and we're the only ones entitled to abuse it with impunity !

If a company is going to ttry and promote themselves on the web or anywhere else, they should surely give the job to somebody with a competent command of the language.

....same as bloody call centres in 3rd world economies, where they've exported our jobs....

I don't have stats either way - what stats do you have that show that accidents generally happen at intersections...or, as we call them, junctions?

I was in the US a little while back (this is for Visioneer & OddJob) and got chatting to some bird in a bar who asked me where I was from. My reply was of course "Just outside London in England". This, as it always does from the lovely Americans, prompted an over enthusiastic reply of "Wow. That's just so cool. Say - what language do you speak in England?" which a bit of a confused look on her face.

If I need to stop, I'LL STOP!

It's up to the bloke behind me to ensure HIS safe stopping distance.

Disagree Visioneer dear boy.
If the bumper hugging cretin behind you hasn't left enough braking space, well it sort of falls into a self preservation requirement for you to leave just that bit extra infront to compensate.
Thinking time is usually calculated as one second or the same in feet as your speed (from what I remember)
Since the tailgater is incapable of thinking (he wouldn't be there otherwise) for your own sake best make allowances for him/her.

Before you throw your dummy I know you were joking (you were joking weren't you ?)

Me ? Joke ?

...I don't HAVE a sense of humour ! :)

Is this from the handbook written by "The Ministry of the bleedin obvious" by any chance?

Sadly it's more applicable to the standards in SIA approved CP training, than we care to think about.
Stating the obvious to us, may actually be big news to a CP operator who can't drive or even the majority that can, but have no advanced training.
The SIA in their wisdom don't believe you need to be able to drive in a CP role.
So if these little basic tips help in a little way, even if it's just to note that driving, safe driving is an issue worthy of debate and inclusion.
Then keep at The Bleedin Obvious.
I think the converted on here, might give you a little latitude.
It's not your fault that you're American after all.:p;):D
