"Toronto 18" bomb plotter sentenced to 7 years

TORONTO (Reuters) – "Toronto 18" member Mohamed Dirie was sentenced to seven years in jail on Friday for his role in a plot to bomb Toronto landmarks in 2006, the second member of the group to be given jail time.
Dirie pleaded guilty last week to "participating in the activities of a terrorist group."

He was one of 14 men and four youths charged following a police sting in 2006 in which members of the group allegedly tried to buy explosives to set off truck bombs at major Toronto landmarks.

Dirie was already in custody on a weapons charge when the police sting took place.

In a Toronto-area court, Dirie was given five years credit for time already spent in custody, and so will spend another two years behind bars, said Nathalie Houle, a spokeswoman for Canada's public prosecutor.

Since the arrests, seven members of the group have had their charges dropped, while four have now either admitted guilt or have been convicted.

Last month, Saad Khalid was sentenced to 14 years for his role in the group, with seven years credit given for time served. One of the youths -- who was a minor at the time -- pleaded guilty last year and was sentenced to time served.

Saad Gaya pleaded guilty last week to plotting to cause an explosion that was likely to cause serious bodily harm or death. He has yet to be sentenced.

Trials for the remaining seven have yet to begin.
The case has been seen as a test case for Canadian anti-terrorism laws introduced in 2001.

So although not successful, thank God, in their plot, the intention, was to kill and maim as many people as possible, white, black, jew, christian or Muslim.
the biggest real time served sentence is 7 years.

Maybe they would have been inept in the actually bombing as well, but still would have killed probably 40 people minimum.
And they are given a sentence of 7 years, 2,555 days.
that would be 9 weeks and 1 day for each life lost.
No wonder they keep trying to do it, thats a very small price to pay, for death and destruction.
Of course in the 'FAIRNESS' of things, after 7 years these innocent, Mothers, sons, fathers and Daughters, the VICTIMS, would all rise up and live a fulfilled life.
Like hell they do, and the sentence should reflect that.
Attempt or success, the intent is the same, and LIFE should mean just that, LIFE.
For as long as the Victims remain or would have remained dead, is the minimum period of inprisonment that should be served, by any murdering scum.
NO prejudice, I don't care what colour or creed you are,

You forfit all rights and all liberty when you take those rites away from others.
You step OUTSIDE the LAW, and can't hope to look to it for protection.

Obviously we are impinging on this potential, determined mass murdering bastards human rites. If the idiot sister thinks its not fair, let her meet some of the Muslim families, who's sons and daughters died in 9/11. bahgdad and throughout the world, lets see if she can reconcile this barbaric belief with those of her own kind.
And after these 7 years, of course he will never plan, and refuse to kill no more, of course. A reformed character no doubt,
They'll lock him up with other plotters, and that is all they'll do,
plot, scheme and plan a more successful atrocity of purposeless hate.

He/they are a danger to society, as what they are trying to achieve (what are they trying to achieve ?) is sheer and utter madness.
For ours and even their safety, keep them under lock and key, indefinately.
