What Are You Reading?

Problem is so many new members doing the intro and maybe ask a question then just disappear.
Strange, when I look at the constant new intros you would think the forum is busy.

This will be funny for many, i am reading!!
Not dare to call it a book but a leaflet: "ROSS KEMP Moving Target"

It is more important the autor than the tittle itself, got if for a pounder on a charity :D
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Moving-Target-Ross-Kemp/dp/0099550628
328 pages of cliches and topics as you would expect from a journalist that was involved in action films and got plenty of histories from the real people facing his character´s situations.

I am having a fun, so got a good deal.

Update, finished the last one and now with "Lone survivor" as before watching the film I was really curious about were in the seals training you are told to go down a hill with your kit on.

Excellent start when I read:
"Lead Petty Officer Marcus Luttrell joined the U.S. Navy in March 1999 and became a combat-trained SEAL in January 2002..." 9+12+12+1 months to become elite.

Being employed only part time (and pretty much add hoc), I'm reading everything I can get my hands on.
Currently a mixture of A level and basic introduction college level maths textbooks, US federal and state law (specifically security related), and working my way through the sci/fi / fantasy section at my local library....

Just finalized a "terrorism awareness course" ??? so to speak, and I am amused about how biased the info was, having attended some lessons (civilian and form the military) on this issue now I understand how UK has such funny laws about gun ownership.

3 three 3 police officers gave the speech with relevant examples stone carved in my mind such as "terrorist love twins because of the problems it involves for security organizations" "if one neighbor suddenly starts dressing in traditional arab clothes and grow a beard, let us know to have a chat with him" and the best: "real examples" of prevention and "pre-crime" stage that involved vulnerable people being influenced by extremist groups and police sending psychologists for a chat that get them back to the right path.

So I am looking for real terrorism booklets from UK to read about the real deal or I am doomed :/

This was more a plea than a upgrade about what I am reading, more what I NEED to read.

Just found this post. Glad to see it's still up here.

I've listened to a load of audio books recently due to doing a lot of driving. I can strongly recommend:

Columbus Day - Craig Alanson
The Cuckoo's Calling (and others in the series) - Robert Galbraith/JK
American Gods - Neil Gaiman
Tom Wood's 'Victor the Assassin' books.

There's a lot more I could add, but these will do for now.

I have some Odd Thomas books to catch up on I think, went in for the operation and missed out on lots. Still having trouble getting my eyes used to reading bright pages, so trying to search the net for books is out of the question, this is about the only site that does not feel like I am looking at the sun. Too bad not all sites are this dark.

You hear of any good Koontz books out in the past 15 months or so?

I've not read any Koontz for a long time - didn't really get into him.
Can you reverse the colours on a Kindle to have white text and a black background? Not sure if that's possible, but might help if it can.

Cickoo Calling

The 'Cuckoo's Calling' is the first book of a trilogy, I have just finished the 3rd book 'Career of Evil' all 3 are excellent reads.

Also it looks like the BBC are making a TV series of all 3 books, yes I know TV and films never give the book justice but they have 'Tom Burke' playing the lead character and if JK gets to give any input to the production it might be half decent.

Ok, lazy days so:

CHRIS RYAN Strike Back (another one whose writer is more important than the title)

FIASCO the american military adventure in Iraq (By Thomas E. Ricks)

And in this moment besides my bed:

BORN FEARLESS (By Phil Campion) that is being for me like a pub remembrance with friends and only decided to go for it due to the Andy McNab comment about it being "one of the best first-hand accounts of life in combat ever written".
Really easy so read and you can split it not losing the theme.

Mein kampf, bloody hard going but a historical record nonetheless. Feel free to slate me lol. Dom

Best of luck with that, I wrote a paper on it back in the 80s, never cared for it really. Historical events through one mans eyes.

Reading theses myself, very good indeed. Pretty accurate too!!!

Just got an editors copy of the Origin by Dan Brown.
Had a few editor copies in the past, it is always nice to read them before
the the public released book comes out. With some authors like Dan Brown
Dean Koontz or Nora Roberts it is almost like reading two manuscripts
around the same theme with the same style, well maybe not the same style
with Nora Roberts.
