I wouldn't normally comment on a vacancy posting but one items grab my attention and I thought I should get in with a question before it gets ripped by someone else:

average between 40–60 hours per week
Required to opt out of the Working Time Regulations then.. The exceptional salary had better be exceptional...

However, under the Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations mobile workers cannot 'opt-out' of the weekly working time limits.

Could one of our legal or CVIT experts clear this up, do the Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations apply to CVIT?

I know that there are special exemptions for security or surveillance work under the standard Working Time Regulations but the Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations are tighter:

All mobile workers (except the self-employed) are affected by the Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations. Under these regulations mobile workers must not exceed:

  • an average of 48 hours per week
  • 60 hours in any single week
  • ten hours in any 24-hour period, if working at night
Mobile workers are not permitted to opt-out of the average weekly working limit.

Yes they do mate and for the vast majority of vehicles in use they use Tacos (for the company I worked for all of them did apart from 2 or 3 that wre used by the very short routes) so your working hours and driving hours come into play.

The way they deal with this is by doing your average working hours over 6 months so that way they are within the law with regards to drivers hours and they can then take into concideration the quiet periods which all balance it out.

After a few months of working 60 hours a week, my hours were cut right back to 35 hours.....hell of differance in the money coming in and I knew of a few blokes who were given 4 day off a week to bring their hours right down as they are overtime mad. It's all about the "average" being used.

It all depends how the depot shift managers manage the routes and the guys available just like any other driving job.

Hope that sheds some light on the subject.

Hi All I am not the POC
This just came up on my totaljobs Alert.. Thought I would put it in the CVIT Forum instead of current vacancies so you who are already looking for this type of work could have first digs and like TacMedic has just shown you on this forum would know its worth and legitimacies.
I will now bow out and leave this to those who understand their work.
Stay Safe all

Thanks for the vacancy posting kevin37.

As you pointed out I don't do CVIT but neither do many others who would ask the same question before considering the job or moving into this sector.

Walks, thanks for the enlightenment.
