Apologies if anybody feels this is in the wrong section. I felt this the best place to post.
From my marina:
"All ports have received a request from UNESCO to assist and co-operate in implementing their initiative to commemorate the event that triggered the First World War on 28th June 1914. In this context, UNESCO has requested that on 28th June 2014, all vessels at sea, if practical, to fly ship’s flags/ensigns at half mast, to indicate mourning in remembrance of the Centenary of World War I.
UNESCO has further requested that vessels moored in harbours are encouraged to use a remembrance sound signal (3 PROLONGED BLASTS) on the same day at 1700h UTC (1800h Local), being the hour of the first shot fired in the conflict, to commemorate the Centenary."
