Another Negligent Discharge by Police

This time in Nottingham. A large group of young kids were being shown around the Nottingham Police facility, after having won a national colouring competition.

One of the firearms officers discharged an automatic weapon (I guess a 9mm MP5), the round struck the floor and the brass caused a cut lip to one of the children.

The police are calling this an accident and claimed that the weapons safety features prevented loss of life or serious injury.

Nottinghamshire Police under pressure for explanation after machine gun injury | Nottingham Post

"The officer involved has been taken off firearms duty and could face disciplinary action.

Mansfield MP Alan Meale said: “It is ludicrous that they are refraining to give out information. It has turned into bureaucratic nonsense."

“One can only presume that they are trying to avoid questions. I want the police to explain what has happened and be full and frank about it.â€

MPs across the county have called for the police to be honest about what happened.

Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero said: “It’s absolutely crazy. I can’t believe that an incident like this was allowed to happen in the first place... I don’t understand why there was a need for the gun to be loaded in a room full of school children on a trip.â€

Accident: an event that happens by chance or that is without apparent or deliberate cause.

NDs

I was recently in Basra, Iraq, when a guy who I worked with had an ND burst with AK47 !!! luckily it was down range in the loading bay. What I was surprised at was this guy had served 22 years in the Army, and was a Sergeant, and only been out less than a year. The thing that bothered me most was his response, all most as if it was nothing. When I served 1982-1994 this was a cardinal sin. Surprisingly enough they also kept him on. If the shoe was on the other foot this guy would have hounded the other person, as what he didn't know wasn't worth knowing.
