Aremt-p..??

Ex QAS to Mining

Hi mate,

I worked for the QAS for seven years with a two year secondment to a BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) coal mine in the Bowen Basin. I completed the diploma course with the QAS and worked as an Advanced Care Paramedic.

I have heard mix reports about the QAS. I found the training and skills excellent, but management less than average. They will make you jump though some hoops to say the least.

Additionally; I am registered with AREMT; the registration does not hold any weight with the QAS as its a self governing organization that sets and maintains its own clinical standards; and a bit “high and mightyâ€. But since moving into the private sector I found the AREMT registration quite helpful.

My advice for work is check the seek.com.au website for paramedic work. There are a few employers in Queensland like ER24 and Immediate Assistance. But the bulk of work is in Western Australia.

Additionally the guys at First Response Australia in Cairns are an RTO. So if you require formal recognition of skills and experience I have found them the be quite good.

Best of luck.

Hello Robbie

I see in an earlier post that St John Ambulance WA was mentioned as they recruit Techs and Paras. I worked as a Paramedic in Perth 2006/2007. The Techs on the three week induction course became Student Paramedics and did the final year of the Uni course, intubation, IV etc. They spent most of the year on the road with the usual placements. They then became Paramedics. Not eligible for UK registration but a fun place to work. There was a Student Paramedic from Ireland on the previous induction.

Worth a thought?

As mentioned the AREMT....isn't really. That is any sort of nationwide registry. Its a quasi industrial organisation. Their Paramedic course will provide some credit toward the much larger programs of study usually needed to practice in Australian states.

Hello there. The medical game is not my show but I work in the mines here in Oz in a security role and our company supplies Medics/ EMT/ paramedics etc etc all around the place. I partner with Paramedics on my shift so I hope my advice will help. For starters do not listen to anybody who is not/ has never worked in Oz. You need to contact a nationally recognised training provider eg, First Response, based in Cairns and get the good news from them. For the record I have never had anything to do with the above mentioned company, they are just a name that comes up all the time in relation with this field. There is a lot of different levels of Medic type roles and they vary from state to state. You could be a Medic, Paramedic, Advanced Care Paramedic, Emergency Medical Tech ( Basic, Intermediate, Advanced ), Registered Nurse, ICU Nurse and so on. Also the titles change from state to state and don't always match up. Long story short you need to get the good oil from a Training provider/ governing body in the area that you intend to work in. The only point I can stress upon is do not listen to anybody who has not worked here. Cheers from Vlad.

thanks vlad for ur comment mate, i hear what u are saying and i will contact the bodys myself and like u said get the good/or bad news myself.any more info mate if u have it is always welcome!!thanks.

Greetings all...if there are any questions and any MISCONCEPTIONS about AREMT and registration and training, please contact me Ron GUI AFCEM(UK)IMRA-T Director www.aremt.com.au admin@aremt.com.au..
as we agree with last statement ambulance services in Australia are abit closed shop..and unfortunately many dont have the full facts about AREMT....we have been around since late 2004.....and still here...hopefully that says something....
For all UK info...we will only be running EMT-Advanced courses...medics will only be registered at EMT-P level if they are working offshore as the Paramedic title is HPC protected..so lets hope there will not be any confusion with registration titles..
Yes as Med1c999 said AREMT EMT-Ps are being accepted in many locations...so we are here to be of service to you all...please NO politics...
ENJOY........

As below...this is what I mean when medics should get the CORRECT information before placing comments..what is meant by QUASI industrial organisation....AREMT has defence, ambulance, industrial and RNs registered....nationwide...well until NHWTaskforce acknowledges AREMT...we agree...but the again many have said why re-invent the wheel?

As mentioned the AREMT....isn't really. That is any sort of nationwide registry. Its a quasi industrial organisation. Their Paramedic course will provide some credit toward the much larger programs of study usually needed to practice in Australian states.
