Can't hear radio

Hi Guys.

Wondering if anyone has any knowledge on ear pieces. At our company we use Icom radios. I have tried different ear pieces as well as wearing an earplug in the opposite ear, however I still struggle to hear clear messages that come over the radio when in a loud club. Does anyone know what the best type of ear piece to buy is? Could do with something that preferably seals the hole ear hole without leaving any gaps. Also is it just me that has this problem or has anyone else had issues with this?
Cheers guys

We use the clear coil earpieces at our club. They will stay in your ear better as they go in your ear canal rather than the loop around earphone style ones which allow background noise to seep in. They're more like hard plastic than soft rubber so it can be a pain to get used to at first. I find if I can't hear someone over the radio then it's cos the sod is standing right next to a speaker so I hear the music rather than their transmission!

As above, the Mic is usually the issue when it allows background noise through, the best earpiece in the world won't operate correctly if the transmission has noise on it.

Regards

Clear coil tubes are what most use, mould the lead. Dip it in warm water, not boiling! Put it around your ear, it will retain its shape. Don't know what Icom uses but as far as I know there's two standards for radio connections, Kenwood and Motorola, I stand to be corrected, but anyway quick question, have you told the guy on the other end to speak farther from the mic? Icom is a very well respected make, I don't think it's the radios.

This thread is 'one step' away from; "Doctor Doctor; I wasn't very well last Friday. What was wrong with me?"
How old and mistreated are both ends of your link?
How good are all connections, with battery connections being most critical?
Have you tested both ends of the link outside of the building where they are used?
How many links are on the same frequency?
What other radio links are there in the building where you operate?
What is the link like when the club is not in use? On a Sunday morning for instance.
Icom make excellent kit...
and so on...

Icom is a different format from both Motorolla and Kenwood, just to be difficult.
I'll just add to what others have said that in a noisy club there are rarely good comms. You have the music sonic noise, plus cables running everywhere for sound and lighting interfering with the radio, plus air conditioning ducts. You need to use clear codes of a couple of words each to communicate what type of incident and where it is.

Sorry DS, can't hear ya lol ;)

dsmedic, if I had a pound for everytime i told bods in a panic not to shout and keep their mouth away from the mic I'd be retired by now.

Apparently, the post below is too effing short...

Once more, I am trying for the cure for posting here, and everywhere else I waste so much time. I'm too old now, and have little patience left with those who listen, but take no notice of advice. I, like most other people, expect everyone to take and heed my often unsolicited advice. We come into this world knowing bugger all, not even understanding 'self preservation' the way wild animals do. So there is a builtin brain cell or two, for giving advise before it is asked for. Recently, I have had a couple of emails and one PM telling me to mind my own business and stuff my advice and comments up my you know where. No, I didn't reply to any of them. As we all get older, we see and recall many more mistakes being made, and are tempted to offer advice. The only advice I can offer is don't do it, unless their actions may cause harm to you or 'yours'. I gave up smoking the night John Lennon died and been an anti smoker ever since, so giving up this place should be easy. Yes, I will still reply to email, but not post here any longer.
