Hi all, new to this forum but thought id find some good opinions so signed up!

Im mid 20s and looking at becoming a cop, i was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has been a cnc cop and a h.o. cop who would give opinions and comparison on both.

I have read quite a bit about cnc and have some experience of h.o policing but dont know any people who have done both!

Cheers

What is it you want to do? Is it locking up burglars and other low-lifes, rolling around the town centre with drunks on the weekend, investigating serious and organised crime, providing protection to royalty or diplomats or responding to riots and public disorder? If its any of these things, as opposed to standing on a gate with a gun/driving around a site with a gun, then join the Home Office Plod.

Alternatively if you want to wear the uniform without any of the hassle or paperwork of the Home Office and play with shooters without ever having to use them, opt for the CNC. It's a well paid number for what it is and with the cuts to HO Forces making cops miserable you might just be better off with CNC.

Can I just add, if you join a HO force, make sure it's a City force like the Met. Much more opportunities and fun to be had.

If you're fat and like to think you're Gucci with all the gear and very little idea, CNC is the way forward.

You would'nt be fat for long...or maybe fat and unemployed as CNC officers need to run 7.6 on a bleep test every year until they're 60.

I see you were unsusceptible to my jest...nevermind.
CNC would involve lots of standing/sitting around, granted; however by the very terms of your continued employment and the fact you need to do a (comparatively) hard fitness every year you'd probably get yourself down the gym or out for the odd run.

Need to keep the fitness up for all those no-roll arounds and no-nickings. Tres importante.

its 7.6 for now...lol just to comply with national standards although you need to be a lot fitter to carry out the training we do,which is constantly changing and getting harder.we've a lot of lads in who compete in triathalons/crossfit/half and ultra marathons etc.

Odd question, but do you get time during your working day to get some phys in ?

I thought it was 9.4 throughout the UK for any AFO be they HO or CNC? (it's definitely 9.4 in my HO force........)

its 7.6,reasoning behind it is you've got to be able to keep it up throughout your career (up to 60) as we've no fallback jobs if you fail that or your firearm quals like the H/O,your out of a job.For specialist teams the standard is higher.
