.......I know the answer to this on on the SIA site but I cant find it at the mo.....

Whats the deal with urgrading your license, how long (I believe there is a minimum period) is it before you can apply to upgrade your license? Say from Security to DS, or CS to CP?

I know you have to pay the full amount first, and can then apply for a partial refund or credit once the new license has been granted. But I'm sure I read somewhere that there was a minimum period that you had to hold your orriginal license for first....

It should be compulsory though. If someone who wants to get a CP's badge should have a minimum of 6 years on a DS's badge.. just my opinion.
 
Why should individuals looking to become a CPO need to do 6 years as a DS. Some of the skills are the same but surely you would be able to pick up these skills in other areas of industry?

Not sure I agree with that one; why do you think that?

What about a civilian from a business background who wants to retrain to be CP? Or an ex police officer with 10 years under his belt; or an ex soldier with the same? Or in the case of a friend of mine a trained paramedic of 3 years who recently left UKSFr after a few years (not sure how long)?

Do these people not have transferable skills? Why should they work as a DS for 6 years first?
