Just watched, for the umpeenth time the film of the Bruneval Raid, on, of all channels "The American Hero's Channel."
Several times, I met one of the recipients of what was brought back, Dr. R.V. Jones, and I was never able to talk with him for more than a couple of minutes without making a fool of myself by 'choking up'. So many questions, but all I ever got out was "Thank you, we all thank you..." My unanswered question was and still is "Why is Operation Silver still classified, after all these years?" Especially considering the Russians had a friggin' spy at the briefing, and films have been made about Operation Gold. I even got a question "asked" in the "House" about it 25 years ago. "Cant discuss it, as it is still "Classified."
But anyway, just an old man having a minor rant, and still proud of the Bruneval participants. Saved many lives...
Going back to work now, behind on my writing, must stop checking in here.
DS.

Why is Operation Silver still classified, after all these years?

My guess would be the surrounding politics, such as Austria's position and the handful of years where we and the Yanks thought we were getting good intel when really Ivan knew what we were up to.

Potential embarrassment for all concerned.

After one of the Austrian Trams fell through the road into one of the tunnels dug towards the Russian Embassy, what was left to be embarrassed about?
Apart from it wasn't dug deep enough...

Is that my cue? LOL - anyone who say's they don't cock up daily is a liar, no one is perfect and no training can prepare you for what's in store in real life. Good post DS, food for thought.
