SIA badge just arrived QUESTION!!

The legislation says that he can ask for any documents etc but it also says the followuing Although the words have been slightly changed by me):

Your man is required to comply with any reasonable request made by you (or any person present on the premises) with regards to:
-stating the purpose for which his power is being exercised
-showing the authorisation by the Authority for his exercise of the power
-producing evidence of his identity

He can choose to ask you to carry ID if he so desires.
It is written in the legislation.

But the bit that I have copied above.....If he is being arsey with you when you have done nothing wrong, then why not ask him for two forms of ID too?
(as you are entitled to do under the auspices of the Private Security Industry Act 2001 chapter 12 section 19 para 4)
Hope that sheds a bit of light

Bubba

I was checked by SIA and LO on Saturday and got an earful for having photocopy on my arm and licence in my wallet which I handed to them when asked. He stated "licence" must be displayed!!

David

Who was the investigator(s) from the SIA - did you get their name?
If you remember their name then please pm me - dont put their name on open forum, am just intrigued to see if someone I know is still doing this
Thank you
Bubba

Hi Bubba,

I should have taken his name but I was on the door of a busy club with a queue at the time so I didn't get it.

There are of course many holders
- Lanyards (with various holders)
- Arm bands

Viper do one that can be worn round your neck, strapped to your arm, leg, belt, or anything.

ie driving license. His reaosn was incase we killed someone they wanted to know it was really the person who was on the badge. I think he was just keeping himself and the three pco's with him busy. He even said he could fine them for having copies but this time he wouldn't. How kind

What a muppet. If you have faked your SIA licence, why wouldn't any other form of ID be suspect too?

I don't like the idea of having my badge on a lanyard around my neck even it it does come apart if grabbed. I prefer a clip on plastic pocket. SIA is clearly visible during my daily security duties. When I am on the doors or at events i use an armband.

I prefer to keep my licence in a holder that slips onto my belt, never had any complaints from police doing the rounds. Available from Viper security equipment for under a tenner and short of taking ya trousers ya badge is goin nowhere

never had any complaints from police doing the rounds

Why would you?

The regulation states that is must be displayed on uniformed guards. The Police would be wrong to make a complaint, and after all - they don't make the rules, they just aim to enforce them.

Yep - There is a black one, and a reflective yellow one
