SIA pre 2005

Hi all

I'm looking for information on how to update my CP qual.

I did my CP course with Phoenix back in July 2005 but never converted it to a SIA licence as working overseas I didn't require one. I've recently applied for a SIA CP licence to be told that although my qualification is recognized it isn't applicable any more as there have been changes to the SIA pre-reqs.

So my question is this, where or which company deliver courses to refresh and sit the new SIA exam to enable me to apply for a SIA licence? I really don't think it fair to complete a full CP course given that I've already done so and worked in the industry for many years now.

I've spoken at length with the SIA and C&G and they're just not interested in me doing top-up courses one of which is Conflict Management and I just get the feeling that this is a money spinner for those bodies that godfather this industry in the UK.

Thanks for reading this and all info / comments appreciated

I am going to have move this post as this is not a recruiting advert.

Hopefully by doing so you will get the replies you are looking for too!

hi mate,
CP isn't my thing so I could be wrong but if it's anything like DS, if you don't apply for a licence within 3 years of passing your course it becomes in valid as in the $IA's eyes your deemed as not working and therefore not current and therefore have to do the course again. I Don't think (but again I could be wrong and the cp guys will correct it) that the $IA recognises overseas work as being current to the UK's licensing rules.
Best of luck though

The three day refresher courses are hard to come by now as there is little or no need for them. You might be better off approaching a company offering full training and just jump onto their course for the relevant parts of the refresher syllabus and doing the exam.

The original Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) had inclusion for both prior Phoenix and Nemesis course students as well as those who had trained in the 3 main .Gov units.

In 2008/9 the SIA removed both commercial entities from that list - even admitting that they shouldn't have been on it in the first place. Even so, the initial inclusion of such was based on a maximum of 3 years since conducting the course and without having been employed in the role.

2005 and commercial - you will have to undertake a full CP course again regardless if you have been conducting the role. No corners can be cut re this.
