Serving Legionnaire, will answer any questions!!

If you are really serious about it then a good way to get your fitness up to speed is not only running (through the pain barrier) but look at your local gym for a circuit training class (not weights) and one that does sit ups, press ups and burpees etc.

My local council leisure centre has one such class and it has people of all fitness levels and for 3 quid aint bad. Training alone is great but you still need to to push a bit more against someone else, and especially at my age.

35 is not a bad age and your in your prime mate I started getting fit again at 40 and am now pushing out 50 mins on a 10km hill /trail run every other day.

Its really down to the individual and how bad you /they want it!!!

French language CDs and download them on your IPOD for convenience get a basic knowledge.

Try your local University for an adult learning course at mine they do a 22 week course starting at level 1 -4 and it costs about £56.00 if you are in employment. CD s are ok but there is nothing better than face to face communication in a foreign language and if you can get a native speaker even better (mines from Paris and a she is a 2nd year student.......result!!!:p).

That said there are many on here (and in the legion) who never had such luxurys and went on to carve out good careers.

Lots out there you have just got to look out for it, however your comments do seem a bit strange on being killed in Afghanistan so is there another reason you never made it through Aubagne???

Minden well said mate!!!

I doubt things have changed, marching is slow and singing songs are a trade mark of the Legion. I can promise there are many hours spent doing that each week, regardless of the work in hand.

Minden - You will have the holy crap kicked out of you if you act that way. No need to worry they will mould you into what you may desire, even if it is painful.

Each non French speaker is given a French speaking buddy who must help him learn, or again get his ass kicked. Great fun if you can't stand the guy :D

adam - Good luck in Afg, enjoy what you can and be safe fella.

Hello, I have one

Hello I am a 17 year old American, I live in China currently, I was wondering if I could join at this age. And can I be sent where I want like Africa or S.America?
Thank you for your time,
Klaus

Hello mate, yea, you can join at that age. To be honest its the best age to join!!
With regard to where you go, if you finish top 6 in training as i did, you can pick your regiment.
Good luck

Although the theoretical limits are 17-40, there is little hope of a 17yo foreigner getting in.
I seen a French teenager turn up with his mum, dad & girlfriend in Aubagne to join up. He was directed to the local police station where his parents signed some papers allowing him to join "the army". Upon his 2nd presentation to join, he lasted an hour before getting the knock back for previous recreational drug use.

Morals to the story:
Don't admit everything to Gestapo,
Wait until you're 18 years old (or see the local French Embassy with parents in tow!!)

what if I smoked weed before?

Wait enough time to get it out of your system... not a big problem!!!

As to the 17 year old comments, i would just join, in my instruction i had two 17 year olds, one was a Spaniard... the other Chillian... i.e. dont worry.

Remember, its easier to train a 17 year old than it is a 30 year old... its a sponge thing!!!!

Hope all are well.

You can join at 17. I joined at 18

Can you be sent where you want? No mate, you do what you are told, you go where you are sent.

The average age in joining is 24, now there are 17 year olds who join but in the REP not many but can't talk for the other regiments. Its a big boys army and 30 is not a problem

Hello adam m8 look am intrested in 2rep and afghan I have served 5years british infantry 2iraq tours a was trying to gettong into cp in iraq were the money is got but missing the buzz of front line combat am training for the legion.

Want to give me a heads up m8 on selection and what they are looking for etc

cheers m8

I really want to join because they are hardcore. However what worries me is the fidelity part of the legions motto. It seems like it is all work and no play. I am going through the process of joining the Royal Marines, but i have credit problems and cant find a job to pay the debt i owe off, so i am thinking of the legion as my backup option.
