This time last year well June last year, I headed of to lille to join the legion as I could not join the British army due to an unspent conviction which is spent in January next years. So I head to France presented at the legion recruitment office was taken in the took my passport asked a few questions about me gave me some clothes and then changed my name from what it is to DULAND ELVISON I went in to the yard and swept leaves. I was introduced to 3 others guys one from Costa Rica one from Iraq and another one who was extremely quiet never spoke at all. was there for 2 nights. was taken for food in a large dining room both night about a 10 minute drive. on the 3rd day we got taken to the train station and given our belongings. And we went and found the main building in Paris. We got our presumed iq test then our bags was emptied by 2 guys in our position new recruits who spoke both French and English, although Senegal is what we called him knew about 8 languages. We then got a pull up test and some did better than others. I would like to point out the diversity was mind blowing from people from Fiji to Peru to England Switzerland and an American some had been in there own countries army like the Swiss guy but had never fought in a war which was his driving force. some couldn't join there own due to Iraqs war but would of been willing as an Iraqi.
We lined up and who did not have slippers was told to buy some so we did. After the days formalities we were escorted to the dining room people were given jobs for example in the kitchen to cleaning dorms and helping with other little jobs. the days were long bed at 10 wake up around 4 for breakfast breakfast was small bread with a chosen filling and warm milk the bigger lads struggled a lot with this the huge Russians with all there braun seem to drop out first a supposed spetsnaz guy so he kept saying.
The Russians seemed to stick together a lot and the rest mixed with no issues. so our 2nd down in Paris was lined up for a head count then to breakfast then an intelligence check they had your passport asked you a few questions and drilled you tried to take the piss mainly grind you down. I had a bit of a beard due to not shaving for about a month as soon as I went in there a huge nepalese guy said no shave this sh*t of your face I did not have no razors so I had to beg someone and Senegal produced a razor a Bic 30p razor it took me atlas half an hour and I still missed most of it swell as parts of my face now bleeding.
I presented again did security check after being abused a bit I was left to go on my job today was in the kitchen washing bowls and plates for well over a 100 people. around 9pm I was asked to go and eat with the remaining people I hurrily ate as much as I could as quick as I could as the day came to an end we headed to bed myself and the same guy from lille began talking he was writing a daily diary. I asked him why come here and why not join the police or Costa Rican forces he explained he lived in Panama then Colombia and he was doing dodgy deals online and lost some body around 30,000usd They killed his girlfriend at the time as he was living in Venezuela he had some money caught a plane to Europe travel to France and joined up. how true that is I don't know but corporal chef came into the room that night explained some will be having medical tomorrow we woke up the next morning my name was called out elvisson and whoever else. cut a longer story short I passed all but the teethe I had a cracked molar they explained I could have it removed in France or back in the UK and return. I had no money at all just around 50pounds for a single back to the UK a friend who I keep in contact with now voluntarily dropped out as he left of his own choosing he can no longer return to the legion I could but 6 months from now I will be able to join the British forces.
Well that is my story of attempting the legion in 2016
I am sure I will get some stick or nah sayers but it is a little advice for people considering the legion well the beginnings of it and if it helps someone make a life changing decision bonus
I have nothing but respect for the legion although family on my return was disgusted
I await your replies
