SIA Taxi Licence??

Does anyone know if this is true? I came across this site today which mentioned that there will soon be an SIA taxi licence. I can't find any other information on it after googling except for the same exact quote just a couple of times which was on this site which makes me think that they're all affiliated. Does anyone have any answers regarding this?

Thanks in advance!

If the SIA do get this gig, we might see the cost of a cab drop like a stone.
The bus will probably end up dearer.
Thats on the up side by the way.
The down side is you'll be getting drivers straight out of BSM with a green P plate on, and you'll have to change gear for him, ''where's third ?''
You'll still take the longest slowest route and be bored witless by the thoughts of Chairman Moaw in the front.

I sent an enquiry in to the SIA about this. I'll post whatever response I get, if I ever get one. I didn't think they'd have their hand in this one, but then you never know.

Just in case anyone is interested, here's the response I got from the SIA regarding SIA taxi license:

Dear Miss Portas,

Thank you for your email

In response to your query I can confirm that to date the SIA have no plans to introduce an Taxi licence.

If you wish to make any further enquiries please contact us on.....

So there we have it. What happens to companies that make obviously incorrect statements like the one above? Is there someone who approaches them and forces them to remove this information or are they allowed to keep it up there? Not that it really matters, but I'm just curious.

I don't even think it is mandatory for taxi drivers to have a FULL CRB unless it is a company who get contracts from local authorities to transport children. Personally i won't even use a taxi company that don't insist on a FULL CRB and i don't like my step daughter to either. I know it doesnt safeguard you entirely but it is at least a start.

Did hear that hairdressers will have to be licensed soon though:D Which given some of the bad haircuts i have had in my life they need to be:eek:

The S.I.A and the Taxi business

Im glad to hear that cab drivers will not have to hold an S.I.A license.

Can't think what kind of sights where claiming that it was going to be bought in, i mean what would be the point in it??

The only cab driver i know who does have an Door license is a mate of mine who drives a black cab, which was handy when we finished working at one pub we could pile into his cab and then off to work at another club, nothing like a free ride haha!!

I did read recently that people with Door Supervisors where going to be given jobs as classroom assistants to help with unruly kids?? not sure if this is totally true and how it would work anyone got any info on it??

I think that they're already being hired for these positions in some schools. I probably saw the same article you did. Haven't seen anything on it since though. Has anyone on here has been hired for that type of position or knows anyone who has? I wonder if this will catch on. I think it's a great idea.

Of course they need a license,
just look at the weaponary they bring to a fight.
Better armed than the police,
2 bladed knife (scissors)
Cut throat razor.
Mace or pepper spray. (numerous choices including peroxide)
Flame thrower (did this with my sisters hairspray as a kid )
Taser baton (hot straighteners or tongs)
Acoustic weapons (hairdryers and that incesant talking)
Poison, (the crap they call coffee while I'm waiting for Lady Ghengis)

Annie, You know the pain of a good Tonging.

Thank god I'm BBC. (sticking to that story)

I never really 'got this'??

What has being a taxi driver got anything to do with security?

What has security got anything to do with being a taxi driver?

It's a non-starter.

Also, classroom assistants actually involves a great deal of training and supervision. A DS has nothing to bring to be of any special benefit in being a classroom assistant.

Another non-starter.

Haven't you had school security in parts of the states for a while, what role do they play over there.
I can see the advantages of a school DS with conflict management and a father type figure, of good repute.
Which a lot of the unruly kids truly lack.
You probably have a greater knowledge of this than us I would imagine.
Maybe not personally (heaven forbid) but certainly from the public perception of its effectiveness.

Well, it depends on the school district, but the district in the city I grew up in had its own police force. I think this is common for cities with about 50,000 or larger. So each school (elementary, middle, high) had 1-5 officers with 1-3 patrol vehicles stationed there depending on the size of the school. It's probably very different in places like LA or New York.

The police in the schools don't just act as police officers (doing the drug searches and arrests and all that) they also deal with the big fights and go into the classrooms to lecture and work with the really troublesome kids which actually did seem to help. There is something about the idea of having a police presence on school grounds which made you want to keep in line. But who knows if it would have any effect on the youth here. It seems that none of them will listen to any sort of authority, though that could just be my area.

So you think a police presence rather than a private security DS, is a better way to go. There sure is merit in it, education of officers and kids alike,
teaches discipline and respect at the grass roots.
maybe if we start now before it gets too far down the slippery slope,
might just save the day.
Older officers father figures, which I've stated seeems to be sadly lacking from the lives of many of the youguns, should be the way to go.
Think we can learn something from our younger cousins, after all.

Could do with vetting after that case of the driver drugging passengers in London. I think a full blown SIA is unnecessary

I don't necessarily think this is a better way to go or even if either option should be considered here. I said it seemed to be effective. But the US is a completely different culture than here, particularly among the youth. I'm sure everyone on this forum has had more experience with the youth of this country than I have, but from what I've seen they couldn't give a rats ass about listening to a police officer or a DS (or anyone for that matter). Who knows though? Maybe if it's introduced to students at a younger age and they grow up with it, it'd be much more effective.

i know that some bus and train companies use SIA licenced people on their transport systems, Newcastle were advertising last year for people i seem to recall, and after being on some of their transport i'm not suprised, getting a bus anywhere at school kicking out time is an absolute nightmare unruly little feckers. I'd be sacked after a week if i even lasted that long for beating cheeky and noisy kids to death with their gym bags.

Id not be suprised to see Licenced ops in schools hell they already have metal detectors in some and i know that they use sniffer dogs to catch out the wee crackheads......... bloody kids

Kinder garden COP comes to mind, or that Vimto Diesel/BioFuel thing, ex navy seal baby sitting thing, like Nanny McFee with fighting and shaved heads.
Not quite the classics but at 04.00 in the morning dross will do while I'm winding down.

i currently hold 2 hackney carriage licences which took me over 2 years 2 gain the knowledge the crb check is once a year and is the advanced type and not the standard done by the sia however have 2 hackney carriage licences and a sia licence at cp level i can see the need for conflict managment as most of the problems we experiance are on front line dealing with drunks and anti social behaviour most friday and saturday nights without any backup :D
