    Watches

Thanks Stevepmag, lots of good points: I haven't included dual-times here as most of my audience are UK based but I might weave it in as an option. The other points I might also try and weave in as they are universally valid. Sorry DanD, Perhaps I should have mentioned, I don't work in...

    Watches

Hi Guys, I have written this article "The Ideal 'Adventurers' Watch" as a bit of a buyers guide to choosing a good watch for working in remote or industrial environments. Now I am a self-confessed "Kit Whore" but after loosing and damaging enough nice watches I have started to rethink what...

Yes please. Echo all the above. Can you copy me in to any details being circulated.

    Zinc oxide tape

I would never advise meths, surgical spirit or similar to 'harden' feet up. Blisters occur because of the friction between the foot and the sock, made worse when feet are sweaty as there is more friction. Drying 'hardening' up the skin with meths etc will just cause much deeper blsiters...

    Thanks for that M4MED.

    FPOS Enhanced / Advanced?

Does anyone have any information on the elusive FPOS Enhanced course? I don't know if this is old news to you guys or not but I have not found much on 'FPOS Advanced' (as commonly referred to in previous discussions) and this is probably because Edexcel/IHCD and RCS have approved the next...

    Medic course

Great well-balanced objective post M4MED The pre-requisites of this course are that you are already a 'medic' (i.e. a healthcare professional or military medic with extensive experience). I'm not here to nit-pick Starlight, just to reiterate the point; there is no short-cut, not even a 4...

treatment for CS gas / Pepper spray?

Sorry to jump in so late to this thread but have only just read through last month's issue of the Emergency Medical Journal (Nov. Vol 27 Issue 11). There is a short article on CS gas. It doesn't reveal much more than has been revealed in this thread already except that whilst 'drying' the...

    Ambulance registration

Agreed. I have often thought about moving into this area - it could be a good opportunity to diversify and bring in other income, increase my practical experience, increase brand visibility, give credence to the training side of the business etc but I am not tempted. I know Phecta posts a...

    iPhone / Android Apps

Agreed. I just been sent a new Samsung Galaxy S. Lovely big 4" but the iPhone Apps Marketplace is leagues ahead of Android. That said, Apps only fulfill a limited service. There are also ebooks (on both Android and iPhone); with Kobobooks you can download the Oxford Handbook of Emergency...

    iPhone / Android Apps

I've been looking for medical Apps for the iPhone and Android based smartphones. Here are 10 which I reckon are worth a look; there is a mixed bag here from the basic "how to put a plaster on" through to ECG and tropical medicine references. Pre-Hospital Apps for iPhone & Android In...

    Remote/Hostile Medical Training

Wholly agree. I have been training in Remote first aid for 10 years in a civilian setting for climbers, mountaineers, kayakers etc. In all honesty it would be the easiest thing in the world for me to advertise Hostile Trauma Medic courses; add another page to the website, reuse some of the...

    Super Glue and wounds

Thanks for all the comments guys. Agree with you on the hesitancy to clsoe wounds in remote areas. Irrigate with 3 Ltrs min? Is that regardless of size? I had not heard that before. Cheers

    Super Glue and wounds

Do any of you 'super glue' wounds and what your thoughts were? I often get asked, especially on our Remote First Aid courses, if you can use Super Glue to close cuts? Yes it is perfectly possible to close wounds with glue but there is the the legitimate clinical method and the...

    Patient assessment stress

Interesting point Dave - I agree with much of what you said (I can't say all becuase I have Man Flu and my brain isn't functioning particulalry well ) I got into training more so because I find Education interesting, rather First Aid itself and this is where I try and differentiate...

Do you know why Hemcon and Woundstat have been removed? Are they substandard compared to QuickClot?

Damage control resuscitation for patients with major trauma

I found this interesting (if you like this sort of thing!) article on an Expedition Medicine website. More relevant to CP / military operatives, but in the same way that I found this website, my interest in Remote medical care is in how we can share commonalities in the miltary/CP and...

    Paramedic or EMT course training

I did my original EMT course with Lifeskills Medical and can recommend them as a great provider for an urban-based course. I did my last EMT at Crown Medical Training and would never do another course with them again - Avoid. Whilst I don't work in CP, I am now pretty confident I will do my...
