Would it not be easier (and a lot cheaper) to get his DS licence which he can do Stats and Pats with and see what direction he wants to go in. Even a cheap CP course is going to cost a couple of grand if you factor in accomodation and time off working.

Why should individuals looking to become a CPO need to do 6 years as a DS. Some of the skills are the same but surely you would be able to pick up these skills in other areas of industry?
